Today I visited a restaurant where ₹20 Bisleri water was charged for ₹55. When I asked for clarification from manager, he said, this is our charge. You have to pay.
So, how & where to complain about this ?
Restaurants are legally allowed to do this
Hotels and restaurants can continue to sell packaged mineral water bottles above ‘MRP’ rates as the Supreme Court has observed that no prevailing law prevents such a sale.
M not sure if this is true.
I think they can have higher mrp product, like we have in cinema hall, their mrp is different, in that way only they can charge you higher (ex, they sell bisleri which having 50₹ ) but they are not allowed to charge 50₹ mrp 20.
It's simpl don't go to restaurant and save money
They should take serving charge(room/table) service separately but not mix(mess) up with MRP and also give us option to pick up bottle at mrp
at least for water they should do as it hurts to 3x mrp
Any chance of this getting listed on the bourses?
@marketdimer @bubbleboychickenlittle @dreamer-07 @googleca @bikidas2060 @mrkool_JJ
That's how they earn money
They can charge above MRP. Thanks to our Supreme Court for that
MRP should be removed price should be changing with demand and supply. now mrp sounds like MINIMUM RETAIL PRICE
Well they could have served it in some fancy glass with some fancy name atleast then we might have thought that it's not the same thing available outside just like they do with the softdrinks 😜
Once upon a time we had Pyaus for offering free water to everyone, people got educated now with leakage in brain and highly trust bottled water and pay for it , then they go to hotels and there also they dont want that free water given by hotels but want branded bottled water and pay there also for it ,
when already paying for what is available for free than pay more and Feel the Premium Class Status .

High people, high preferences.
Better to carry water bottle from home or order from swiggy instamart / zepto even paying 10- 20 delivery is better than paying 2x.
Pro tip
tataneu bbnow free delivery .

The best way to make both parties happy is to set a cap on billing of packaged items - like maximum 1.5X of MRP...
@kool ... bade aadmi ho bhai, Maurya mei khane gaye the.
But on the other hand, it's weird they did this with packaged water of other company. Most of the cafes and restaurants I've seen, they do the same thing but at least with their own packaging and charge as they wish.
How do You know maurya 👀
And yes, that's what I am saying they should use their own packaged water with higher MRP.
Just leave negative review in Google maps for the restaurant. Thats the maximum you can do as revenge.
A] Why have revenge in heart.
.
B] It is a star rated property of a fairly successful company/ group. Reviews on TripAdvisor too may not bother the company.
.
C] We (the public) do not directly appoint the judges, but we do choose the highest level of scoundrels from amongst us.. and then send those 700-800 rascals to the parliament. (Yes, I know that the decision of the upper house membership is not directly in the hands of the citizens. But that is besides the point here).
.
Why cannot we think on the lines of having 'less scoundrel' law makers?
Why shouldn't we rather take it upon ourselves.. to ensure that those 🐖law makers🐗 amend, update the laws or make new ones.. such ..that the law leaves NO SCOPE for giving such leeway for such anti-consumer politics?
u got one litre for Rs. 55..... now a days haldiram they will give their own brand name packed drinking water Rs. 50 for 250ml.... sookha gala geela krne k liye
Who puts his nation first before his life.
And on the other hand a businessmen who does not even have the guts to pay the proper income tax. I have seen businessmen with 5+ cr income filing return not more than 5 lakh (+ criticising India ke is desh ka kuch ni ho skta).
Which so called 'courage' you were talking about ?
Even Dimers like us spend our precious time on sites like DD to LOOT rs.1..2..5...10 or 20 via various cashback and discounts...whereas these Restaurants and Businessman LOOT crores from us in a flash...
Use the hotels for rooms only, never use their room service, restaurant unless it is included in your hotel bill complementary then use it fully. Use the rooms and eat outside. If at all must have to eat in the hotel always double check the menu prices, water is mentioned as per MRP then order or best carry your water. I have not seen anyone restricting carrying water.
bro try your luck on https://consumerhelpline.gov.i... anyway, they did not charge you only Rs. 55
they charge you Rs. 55 + 18% Gst + 2% Sct = Rs. 66
we didn’t fight whole thing in court but many loopholes there like selling above mrp and charging gst on that already mrp includes gst as per my knowledge so this point creates confusion. now on the name of service charge court allow but in this bill they added two times service charge one direct second indirect is this legal? and latest regulation of government say if Customer want to pay Service charge then they give but they forcefully not take it.
Some questions here..
1. Hon. SC stated about ambience and service we enjoy. So, why it's adding specific to packaged water(mrp). It should be added to whole bill. But here is the catch, what'll be the name then? Service charge, but issue of service charge is in Hon. SC. Till today, customer have to pay service charge as new CCPA guidelines are stayed now.
2.If the bottled water is being served to you within a restaurant premise, in a glass, and is/or temperature conditioned, then there is a service being provided, and the restaurant is at liberty to charge over and above the MRP. However, if you are purchasing the bottle of water from over the counter, or at a departmental store then they cannot over-charge you.” is it what hon. supreme court meant!?
If this is correct, it's under reasonable classification for taking extra amount. @kool
@RohitKrOfficial that "forcefully not take it" part is stayed now.
@maddydilip @Subhodayam this restaurant will not affected by negative review at all. Maurya is brand. (Just POV) Also, @getready mentioned earlier it's not illegal yet.
OP have some remedies:
- Consumer Helpline (not much hope)
- GOI (but why parliament will come with the bill which seems to be against the corporates and Businesses)
- Hon. SC/Highcourt of Patna
- Some NGO/Social Movement
Okay Stayed, but Two Times Is this thing also legal by court Direct and Indirect on Name of Service charge?
There is nothing new or illegal or loot from their side and it is foolish to even think about this as the charges are being asked to pay not only for water it was also for the cleanliness/comfort/waiter/environment/royal decorating. If u have a problem then simply buy from the roadside shop they will give u the same bottle at mrp cost.
According to that roadside momos cost only ₹50 per plate without CGST, SCT, SGT.
Kinley or Bisleri?
Btw its not even 55.. 55 + 20% tax
GST for Food is 5% right? here they have charged 20% ???? How come?
- Restaurants within hotels (Where room tariff/rate is more than or equal to Rs 7,500): 18% GST
- Normal/composite outdoor catering within hotels* (Where room tariff/rate is more than or equal to Rs 7,500): 18% GST
food and beverages are getting costlier day by day especially at airports, food courts and malls.
normal restaurants also charges a big amount for food.
the only low cost option is to have food made at home...
1L water for Rs 55 is acceptable compared to paying Rs 250 for a coffee at airport
Dont go to such hotels and discourage every one soon they will have to sell for lower
This mark-up has been there for ages in hotels/restaurants. It is called establishment charges.
However, if you want to complain, Google Rahul Bose Banana and decide for yourself.
Posting a negative review does not affect the restaurant it just increases it's view posting something like it does not exist is the revenge that the restaurant owner will not forget
you got a much better deal for rs 55, they should have a breakdown of mRP+service charges but given the service offrered 55 rs is way too cheap
Like Xerox : Photocopy ; Mineral Water : Bisleri
I paid 120 each bottle has no mrp mentioned on it so nothing can be done i think
