Got generic message from bank
Auto debits towards your loan EMI/Instalment/Interest has been deferred up to May’20.

Where did you read about the “no interest” thing? 
Will this happen with all banks? I don’t want to defer my payments. I guess I will have to call my bank and request for the process.
ICICI debited as usual.
Guess for pvt banks the automatic option is normal EMI, you need to opt in to get it deferred. For PSU banks the automatic option must be deferred, you need to opt out to get normal EMI.

Nope, at-least not with SBI.
SBI guys have sent a SMS and if you want to opt out of EMI for 3 months than you have to fill a form (in the link)
Banks will charge interest as per RBI

ICICI is the one Bank that handled this with proper consideration – they divided loans into two types, mostly based on the segments the loans are targeted, first is mostly business/self employed people targeted loans, second is salaried persons targeted loans. For first, default is defer EMI, you can opt out and pay normally through online form if you want. For second, default is continue EMI, you can opt in and defer EMI through online form if you want. Home loans, car loans, personal loans come under second. All the other Bank loans and most of credit cards of mine gave option to defer if we want to.
