Pre filter to remove dust + active carbon filter to remove chlorine and foul smell if any + UV to kill microorganisms would be sufficient

RO not required

Yes you change pre-filter without changing whole filters Infact you don't even need RO system for TDS level ~300ppm.

Yes you can definitely use only a prefilter. If you want more filtration, you can add two prefilters in series. You can check visually for the prefilter color and chage when its orangish brown or measure the input and output TDS and change when difference is low.

@ontherocks

Bro, Any pump will be required to push water inside pre filters or

water pressure of 1 floor will be sufficient?

Not required, Polypropylene spun filters(White candle inside the prefilter kit) hole size will be usually 5 micron, which usually doesn't require any pump, leave first 20-30 liters in drain because it gives you plastic taste

I am wondering why they are not providing transparent pre filter so one can watch and replace when needed.

WHO report on RO water is not good. Research before buying.

Just trying pre filter only. To make tds near 100 and remove Chlorine smell.

Pump in an RO filter is required to forcefully push water through the RO membrane.
For the prefilter you should not be needing any pump.

For 350 RO is not required, as per BIS recommendation upto 500 TDS is potable, WHO suggests 300 TDS as potable water

If TDS<300 and if it contains any harmful elements like fertilizers, heavy metals (even in very less quantities are dangerous) such as cadmium, lead, arsenic, high fluorine content only then go for RO, else RO is not needed. This can be assessed only after a lab test of the water sample.

Any brand is fine even local brands are also fine if you can DIY, if you can't DIY, then choose a brand which has good service in your town/city

I heard many negative reviews about KENT, AQUAGUARD try to stay away from them

Pre-filter neither reduces any tds nor removes any foul smell. It removes any susupended impurities like sand, pollen, silt, leaves etc of size>5 micron.  Only activated carbon filter can remove odour, chlorine. Activated carbon is nothing but charcoal, it can be either tree wood based or coco-peat based, this charcoal technique to remove foul smell is being used from ages in some backward areas of africa. UV is to kill germs, if you don't want UV then simply u can boil the water to kill germs.

Can u please suggest  some peoducts which have only this. Also, if the filters are void of plastics it will be good.

I live in a housing colony where they pump water from a river bed or bore water (if river is dried) . And they add only chlorine to the water tanks.

Based on this please suggest .

Are there any industries nearby which lets their industrial waste into river? In some cases, I even saw few battery repair shops, automobile repair shops dispose off the acid into rivers

How many members in home? Only for drinking/cooking purposes or washing clothes/bathing also?

If river contamination is happening in any form like cattle washing, fertilizer mixing etc, without a second thought choose RO else normal Prefilter+active carbon+UV would be sufficient

Remember all these work upto 150-200 TDS range, these won't reduce any kind of saltness, minerals in water.

Based on your budget, serviceability at your pincode choose one. Choose one that has best after-sales if you can't DIY like filter replacement, UV Lamp replacement etc
