Hi, my Ford Figo had a minor hit last day on a barricade. There is a slight bend on the front right mud guard and there is some scratch below the front right head lamp. Also, the front right head lamp is having a small crack through which water can get inside. And due to the impact of the hit, the windshield has gradually started developing a hairline crack from the bottom. I have not informed the insurance company yet as I don’t know whether I should go for insurance, or would I get insurance for this, if yes, for what all damages I described above, and what percentage. And also, I don’t know if I would be able to claim the insurance if I say it was a hit on the barricade. Kindly guide me how to go about this. I am linking a few pics of the damages for your reference and expert opinion. Thanks in advance!

Come what may, if you are planning to get these all fixed then raise a complaint with the insurance company and just go and hand over the vehicle in an authorised (partner) service centre as per the insurance company’s list.

The surveyor will come, inspect your vehicle and let you know what all will be covered in the claim, then you can decide if you want to go ahead with the claim or not.

Don’t worry, even if the accident happened due to your negligence you vehicle still is covered under the insurance.

The percentage of coverage depends on what insurance plan you use. I have a zero depreciation plan for my vehicle so all I need to shell out is Rs. 1000 as processing fee for the claim irrespective of how huge the damage is and the same applies for up to 2 claims each year.

For a general plan you get a coverage of 80% for metal and 50% for fibre and glass parts I guess. Plus the processing fee.

Keep in Mind about ‘No claim bonus’ for next year. Ping me for any help. ( Lot to add up, later)

Edit:
Damages might Cost around 10,000 after looking pictures. Well suggest contact surveyor once. Front Glass important, contact insurance from where you bought ? Agent?

Hey @raghupro and @hese Thanks for the heads up! Yes, I will contact the insurance agent (personally known to me) ASAP. And what is the ‘No claim bonus’ for next year? I won’t be able to claim anything next year if there’s a minor or major damage? Btw, I’ve insured the vehicle with United India.

If there are no claims made by you this year you get up to 20% discount on base value of the premium you have to pay next year for renewing insurance.

Update: Went to Ford service center last month. They gave a quotation of 30k, the final bill came around 27k. They’ve replaced the front bumper (and painted it), one headlamp, wind shield glass, fixed the bents and dents, did the painting patch work wherever necessary. Finally got the insurance amount credited today – 24.5k. Woah! I wasn’t expecting that I’d get almost 90% of the bill amount https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

Good that you got the car fixed at authorized service center. For minor dents or scratches, it’s better to get the car fixed at a local body shop.My brand new 3 days old car( Hyundai Grand i10) took a hit on the bumper and the lower portion of the bumper below the fog lamp cracked.. Hyundai service center wanted to replace the entire bumper and they quoted 6.5k for bumper replacement + panting. Although i had zero depreciation insurance, decided against using it and got the car fixed at a known workshop for 1.5k. They did a splendid job and nobody could tell that the bumper was repaired and painted. As luck would have it, car took another hit couple of days back while trying to park in a tight space. Thank god there are no major crack this time but the hit left a few visible scratches. need to get it fixed when i get some time.

Insurance premiums have gone up by quite a bit and NCB can lead to substantial savings especially on cars costing more than 10 lacs. Even for a 7.5 lac car such as Grand i10, Insurance premium along with zero dep costs 24k. NCB would easily knock off 5k during next year renewal.
