Choosing the right shampoo for your hair type.

To start with choosing correct shampoo, it is very important to know your hair type and most importantly hair scalp.

Why it is important to knowing your scalp and how to define it ?

Usage of shampoo is targeted more towards cleaning of the scalp than ends.

Let’s understand how to understand it,

So, if you’re prone to oily roots, you may need a less moisturizing and deeper cleansing shampoo. And on the other side, if you have a dryer or a more flaky scalp, you likely need something more moisturizing and hydrating.

Think of it as: shampoo is for your scalp and roots, while conditioner is for the ends of your hair.

For eg- If your scalp is oily and your ends are dry (a combination hair), then you should choose a shampoo that is best suited for an oily scalp and leave the moisturizing up to your conditioner, which should be applied only to your dried ends.

Different Hair type & shampoo recommendations.

1. Fine hair
Volumizing shampoo is best suited for lifeless thin hair to give an illusion of volume. As the name suggests, the shampoo is designed to add body and volume to hair. These shampoos usually do not deposit much conditioning quats, oils, or silicones on the hair. Instead, they clean the hair fairly well, and often contain ‘special’ ingredients that can deposit on hair to add friction at the roots and build volume.

    Recommendation:
    Tresemme Volumizing shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/TRESemme-Shampoo-Hour-Hea...
    Biotique Volumizing shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/Biotique-Thyme-Conditione...

    2. Dry Lifeless hair
If you are someone with dry hair should choose a sulfate free moisturizing shampoo. These shampoos are mild on cleansing and help moisturize the hair strands to reduce the fizziness. The goal is to cleanse gently and deposit protective layers to the hair. Such shampoos remove the dirt and sebum from the hair in the water soluble phase, but the oils, silicones and other conditioning agents stay behind as a thin coating over the hair shaft. Nowadays most of them are sulfate free, but some may contain Sodium Lauretha Sulfate which is milder than sodium lauryl sulfate so you can opt for such shampoos.

    Recommendations:
Body Shop Rainforest moisture shampoo- https://www.nykaa.com/the-body-shop-rainforest-...
    Triclenz shampoo- https://www.netmeds.com/non-prescriptions/tricl...

    3.
     Oily scalp Dry hair
The clarifying shampoo also referred to as the deep cleaning shampoo contains heavy duty surfactants. The goal is to remove any build-ups caused by using too many products over a long time such as heavy conditioners, hair sprays, silicone products, gels etc. This is an occasional shampoo and most of them use the sulfate surfactants for that purpose. Consistent usage can strip the hair of its oils and such, and cause problems. If your hair is dry and only the scalp is oily, you can accompany this clarifying shampoo with a deep conditioner too.

    Recommendation:

    L’oreal Extraordinary clay shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/LOreal-Paris-Extraordinar...
    Park avenue beer shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/Park-Avenue-Shampoo-Damag...

    4. Sweaty oily hair
The everyday shampoo is the opposite of the clarifying shampoo. Many people face the need to shampoo every day, either because their tolerance for sebum is low or by force of habit. For those people a mild shampoo is required. The everyday shampoo doesn’t strip and cleans just enough.

    Recommendation:
    Spoo shampoo by Curatio- https://www.amazon.in/Spoo-Baby-Shampoo-125-ml/...

Another highly recommended way is to use Dry Shampoo. It is an excellent option for an oily scalp, in which you do not need to shower everyday and still can manage a clean non oily scalp everyday.
    Recommendation:

Batiste Instant Hair Refresh Dry Shampoo-https://www.tatacliq.com/batiste-instant-hair-r...
    Dove dry shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/Dove-Refresh-Fresh-Floral...

    5. Curly Hair
Curly hair shampoos are always silicon and sulfate free to reduce the frizz and give the hair some bounce. Co-washes also suit curly hair well. They are a combination of shampoos and conditioners

    Recommendations:

    Curl Up shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/Curl-Up-Moisturising-Sham...
StBotanica GO Curls Hair Shampoo- https://www.amazon.in/StBotanica-Curls-Hair-Shampoo-Silicones/dp/B08PZCVP2P

    1. after 1-2 days if you scalp gets oily/ hairs gets greasy which is indication of oily scalp.
    2. if you scalp feels dry or your skin might feel tight and sometimes you can see smaller & dry flakes too that’s the sign you have dry scalp.

i have a different symptom then, my hair gets slight greasy not towards the roots, that too after 3-4 days. But the scalp remains dry as I regularly see flakes and have to resort to itching and plucking at times to remove those flakes.

what kind of hair this might be? and what shampoo should I prefer?

I would like to add 1 more point.
You shouldn’t often mix 2 or more shampoos together.
Also don’t change shampoo often, use same shampoo for more than a week or a month.

@LibraRamesh shampoo as such I am not aware but, my mother apply onion paste 2 a week and it has shown great results.
About diet her diet is pretty simple- veggies, fish, fruits mostly seasonal fruits, and roasted flax seed powder with carrot juice or any other juice or water in morning.

I think you should consult dermatologist if it cause irritation- as there can be many factors- like hormonal imbalance, some infection or may be allergy to some ingredients of shampoo or any hair styling products.

Please help with correct ways to use shikhakai.
As in, using only shikhakhai is enough or we should use amla retha powder along and how many times in a week can this be applied, as i have read it can make you scalp more oily or dry if used frequently.
