I haven’t enabled contactless payment on my card.
Today at a store when i made gave my card for payment, the cashier took my card and didnt swipe just tried contactless method to charge my card. I was in a hurry, it didnt strike that i dont have contactless payment disabled after i reached home checked sms on my mobile that contactless payment failed.
Now i am thinking of going back to the shop to pay him back, but i am wondering how could a cashier make this kind of mistake of not checking payment status and generating bill.
Dont the machines print receipts for contactless payment?

Yes the failure shows up with your card number and name etc.. So they would know who you are and can maybe get contact info after they contact the bank.. Not sure they have legal means to recover the money in such cases but I would just go and pay them.
As i already said amount is not large, so i have no hesitation to repay, wondering how can cashier be so casual, as this is his daily job.
I thought of waiting for 2 days if the txn doesnt show up in unbilled txns then enquire with them if they didn’t receive any payment
As you already mentioned that you are considering going back and paying them which is a good gesture from your side. Also the company may put that payment on cashier. So it would be nice to inform them and pay for it
