Credit card for wife with no prior credit history

My wife is a homemaker and she does not have any credit history yet.

How can she obtain a credit card ?

I have few credit cards like HDFC Regalia, Citi rewards, Kotat League, ICICI Platinum and Amazon Pay, SBI Simply Click and few others. Will it help if I apply for a add-on credit card for her and will this build credit history for her ?

I have HDFC Preferred account and I can ask my RM for this but not sure if he can do something.

I guess she has a bank account in single holder mode? Do regular transactions like deposit and spends via debit card on it. May get preapproved offer for CC. (May take 3 months+ minimum)

Quick way to get started: check if she gets onecard (maybe FD based but will build cibil gradually). Have you checked her cibil yet? Also for secured fd based cards, get a higher amount fd not less than 10k.

Add-on cards affect history of primary holder only.

She has accounts in SBI and PNB. She uses not frequently though.

I can check her cibil but I have doubt as hardly any history as no loans or whatsoever.

Ok, check cibil first. My earlier post was for opening bank account in HDFC and proceeding further.

Still, try one card way if urgent.

As SBI account exists, if you wish to have SBI card, increase balance deposits and debit card transactions (pos) there for a month. Then apply through branch cards section for SBI simplysave for mainly offline spends or SimplyClick for online. Keeping 50k is recommended as sbi pulls data from account in background for profiling.

I'm not sure if additional priority is given but existing sbi cardholders can refer new applications. https://www.sbicard.com/sbi-card-en/assets/docs...

Avoid PNB.

Include her to your hdfc preferred account through family banking..and try asking for a hdfc cc through rm.. If you have some good relationship with bank..they may approve

Yes, that's a bit of hit or miss deal in short term. I'm not sure from OP's description if she wants to stay with her own accounts and banks hence had suggested many ways.

Quickest way is to get OneCard, keep using it and then apply for all bank stuff as usual.

Never a 2k fd OneCard, that way you're buying a dumb dodo for 2k... Atleast 10k will give some breathing room. @notion If you need refferal code from me, reply here.

Well a year ago I applied for Slice Card with her account but it went to hold or not approved. I would like to apply for One card but have doubts because of my earlier experience with Slice.

OneCard is not credit line or BNPL but likes of slice, unicard, postpe, etc are and people have mass closed many BNPLs of late at DD due to many issues. I'm against any BNPL subscription.

One would definitely get fd based secured card if unsecured is not offered or qualified for.

As suggested, just open a hdfc account for her in your preferred grouping, it will be free. Ask your RM for a credit card for her. Since you are preferred, it will be probably a regalia card for her.
