Hello Friends, I need a help, I have a situation on my credit card. My bill is generated and now for one order I will get refund from the merchant. e.g. My bill generated is 10,000, and I will get refund of 4,000, and may be in this month I will not use my card for more than 1,000. So my question is how can I go for the bill pay? should I go for the whole bill payment? or only the difference 6,000(10,000-4,000). Please help if someone already gone thou this situation.

Only pay the difference for now and relax. smile

The bill was recently generated so you will still have approx 15 days to pay the bill before due date.

  • meanwhile, the merchant will process the refund (within 15 days) so the refund amount will also be counted as payment of bill. and you are only required to pay the difference amount of the bill.
  • But in the unfortunate case when the merchant will delay the refund process by more than 15 days, then you will have to pay the full amount (10,000 ) to card company now and this amount will be compensated later. If you do not pay the bill amount in full then they will start charging daily interest on your card. , You can contact your card customer care for more details, or if they can take this as a special case and extend your payment due date.

I will suggest you to pay the difference amount of 6000 now, also ask the merchant to expedite the refund process and wait till the due date, If the Merchant refunds by the due date then good for you or else you can pay remaining 4000 later and save yourself from high interests.

EDIT: (please correct the Thread title to something more meaningful) Done

Thank you for your quick reply:-}

Yes, I am expecting the refund before my due date.
So now I will pay the difference now and refund not credited 2-3 days before the due day, then I will pay remaining.

@ DAN, are you sure it happens that way, IMHO the refund will reflect in the next bill only..this has happened with me several times and I always paid the full amount, can’t risk high interest charges

Wait for 3 days before payment date.
Go to your credit card account & watch whether the refund has been done or not.
If no, pay the whole bill. If yes, pay the difference.
In case you do NEFT, you can wait till penultimate day.

In case you pay the whole amount, you will receive a negative bill next month. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

Yeah, that will be the safest option. You can keep checking the status of the refund from the merchant and the bank by visiting the online banking site of your card (if they provide one) Nowadays almost all major bank provide this facility.

yes, bro. I am 100% sure as this is a very common situation for c.card customers and I have myself been in such situations.

The Refund from the merchant will be added in the account the same day it is received. You can check this through the online banking site of the cards bank(if they provide it.) later on When the next month bill will be generated you can verify the date when the merchant’s refund was credited to card account.

any amount credit to the account between the period of Bill generation and bill payment due date is added and compared to the Bill amount.
  • if all Refunds + amount You (or anyone) paid to your card a/c >= Bill amount of the card → no interest charged
  • if all Refunds + amount You (or anyone) paid to your card a/c < Bill amount of the card → interest will be charged on the remaining amount.

Source: ( I know this by experience and have verified this several times with card companies, I hold several cards myself and my dad is a Bank Manager ) smile

the best is to verify online,

one step further,
for SBI card, HDFC card, if u book some order (like irctc, amazon) and cancel the order u will get the refund within same bill period, even then that is qualified for credit against the recent bill, if recd. before the due date. so in nutshell your liability to pay before the due date is shifted for one more month.

Friends, I have to pay an HDFC credit card bill. Usually, when I use SBI netbanking it gets credited only on the third day. In this case, tomorrow is the due date. So, how do I credit the money instantly?
TIA.

It takes only 12 hrs if you pay the amount with your HDFC bank account. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

USE IMPS (Immediate Payment Service)

I’m not clear about this IMPS. They ask for IFSC. But this is credit card payment. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif

Bro did you even check the three links i shared above ? it answers all the FAQs and explains clearly what else do you want to know ?

Basically it is the same as NEFT except that IMPS happens 24 × 7.

You can pay your credit card bill by doing NEFT/IMPS to your credit card .

  • CC account number = card number
  • IFSC = (check with card bank website or call CC)

Normally an intra bank transfer happens quickly , but not sure about weekends/public holiday 26 Jan.

if you use IMPS – you are safe.

if you use any other option, you are at risk and i will suggest to call Card CC to extend your due date for this month by 2-3 days. and tell them the reason. normally they will agree.

I don’t own a credit card, for that matter. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Refund has to be credited before statement Generation not before final payment date.AFAIK you have to pay the charges legally unless bank waives it off as good gesture

You need to pay “minimum due amount” at least, rest all shall be adjusted from the 100% refund received.
Reason: merchant refund is not treated as payment, so you need to make at least one payment to your card.

If, Amount Paid + Merchant Refund >= Due Amount, no interest shall be charged.

P.S. This was informed by a CC executive once, forgot the bank.
EDIT: It was ICICI bank CC.
