Can anyone suggest a good cycle ~10k for casual/leisure cycling. (2k give or take is fine)
I had a look at decathlon st30, it costs 9999 plus additional ~2500 for accesories like stand, water bottle holder etc.
Any reviews for this cycle will help too.

For casual riding you think multiple gears are necessary? As I saw description of the cycle you suggested, I see there’s no multiple gears….
no, for casual riding, gears are not necessary, gears are useful when u ride on hill area, and the maintenance is also some what riskier with gears bicycle, it needs regular maintenance
Ok.
I would like to buy offline only though as it requires additional installation.
Can you suggest any cycle that I can get offline?
Btw any idea about decathlon ST30 cycle (9999/-) or you know if hercules Rodeo’s are any good in my price range?
Anybody?
I increased my budget to ~15K
Try suncross

Hey @jileg - how is your experience after using this cycle for over 1 years.
I am also thinking of purchasing a cycle and confused between various options. After visit to one store and reading threads on DD, have decided for following must haves
1) Alloy frame
2) Disc brakes
3) Front suspensions
4) Unisex build
My budget is 15K+ (can increase by 1K).
I stopped using it since last 3 months as I moved to another city, I was using it during wfh. Planning to carry it this time to my work location so that I can continue using it.
While I was using it, I used to do 20kms regularly along with a friend. I am definitely not an expert just bought it so that I can do cycling when there are not enough players for playing badminton any day
Firstly the cycle is great. Considering the price, it is even better as I didn't find anything more than what this cycle offers in other cycles that costed 15-18k. You might find a couple of models which offer lockable suspension, not sure if it's a gimmick or not but I didn't feel the need for it in the road conditions I ride .
Theoretically locked suspension will be easier in smooth roads though.... But if you are planning to use it in good roads why not but city bikes? The one with slimmer tyres (700c).
I think I got this cycle for around 11k including discounts and cashbacks.
The cycle doesn't come completely assembled, but I assembled the rest myself with the help of YouTube. Be a little careful and patient through as it can get frustrating when you notice you assembled a part incorrectly as you have to redo it again. But it felt good doing assembly myself .
I didn't dislike anything major about it, so I can definitely recommend it for around 11k.
But sometimes I felt like I should have bought 700c tyres cycle as I see many cyclists using those and they look professional to my eyes .
But if want a MTB, I can definitely recommend this for around 11k-12k as I did not find any gear cycle in this price range when searched offline, even in Hercules showroom
If I have to nitpick, you won't get a bell, light in the box. Also you might have to get a seat cushion, but try stock seat before deciding. Another major thing is mostly offline shops won't take your cycle under warranty if bought online. But online support sends you any part by courier you might require to get it repaired in a local repair shop.
Firstly @jileg thanks for taking out time for a detailed review. Appreciate the same 👍🏼
Good to know that your choice worked well for you. By the way, this model is not available at my pincode in Mumbai. Also prices have increased.
When I started for shortlisting of cycles - initially was keen for a single speed cycle. Then I visited 1 store (staff was quite helpful), test ride few cycles and learnt from them various options. And then basis that shortlisted my requirements.
My options right now are limited and mostly from new / smaller brands.
Urban Terrain UT3000A27.5 is one which comes closely to my needs and budget.
Rest all goes higher - eg NINETY ONE Kamet 27.5T or VECTOR 91 Men's Wanderer Pro 700C
Indeed, for my use case, wherein will ride in city and that too, for exercise etc to start with, confused if should go with MTB (27.5) or Hybrid (700C). Shopkeeper told me MTB and hence more thinking that side
In summary, still clueless and yet to narrow down ... 😜
But I saw it for 10-11k just 1 month back too when suggesting something for a friend. So may be the price might come down if you can wait a couple of weeks? Use price tracking on the cycles just to see in what price they generally sell for and how often do thier prices drop.
I would suggest gear cycle instead of single speed one, it becomes so much helpful when riding in steep terrains. I have heard from people that shimano gear system is better than others.
If you would like to take it off road then get MTB.
And how much distance you plan on riding? If it is like 25-30kms and not more then MTB is good enough.
Fellow dimer @jileg already purchased last year It is me who is now searching.
Budget : 15K, can extend too but will like to not make a dead investment if I don't use. So being cautious
City : Mumbai
Riding Pattern (forecasting )
Morning/Evening for exercise purpose < 10 kms/day
Weekends - may be longer distance, but think still < 25 kms/day
(after college, that too 15 yrs back, I will be riding cycle now)
Within city only
Looking for Unisex design - so that my dad (Senior Citizen), my spouse and I - all can use.
Height between 5.4 ft to 5.9 ft, weight between 65 to 85 kg
@mGforCe
You can go for Firefox Prisa then, it's a good single speed hybrid bike.
It's totally fine to test out initially and go for better bikes in future.
Firefox isn't high end 😬
High end hybrid bikes start from 40k upwards.

@sahil1033 - any gear one which you can recommend?
1) Steel frame, I need alloy
2) V brakes, I need disc brakes
3) Single speed, I need geared one
May be for you it works well and you can go then
Got Cradiac Gunner Pro delivered on Monday and over the last 3 days already rode a few times.
Gears shifting little iffy, but there Customer Care connected me with mechanic and he helped online. Will check over weekend else take to local mechanic.
Overall quite happy, super light bike, Shimano gears etc. It also came with basic accessories like stand, mud-guards, bottle holder etc.
@sahil1033 @jileg - any seat cover which you can recommend? The saddle is narrow one and not that comfortable 😂
go to Decathlon and you'll find padded bibless shorts in clearance at Rs. 999
if uncomfortable with wearing cycling shorts, you'll find foam based seat covers in Decathlon
Thank you both for the quick feedback @sahil1033 @jileg
@sahil1033 @jileg @mGforCe How is Toronto XC 20 bike? I will be using it for excercise. I am getting it @ 20k at a local shop. Kindly give your input.
If you're not riding off-road, specifically hilly terrains (rocky terrains), why even go for MTB (mountain bike) ?
Go for hybrid instead, enjoy your rides on road because I'm assuming that's what you'll probably be doing and hybrids can handle a bit of off-road as well since the tires are a bit wider.
Please consider a hybrid bike and do some research on hybrid bike, what exactly it is. Firefox Rapide 21s is one good hybrid bike out there I can suggest, Montra also sells some good hybrid bikes.
Most probably you'll stop after a few months so dont spend 10K.. ST10 good.. If u live in a good city with clean roads..
How is triad X4 guys?
@sahil1033 , @jileg , @mGforCe
Both of them are unnecessary if you'll be riding on smooth roads. Disc brakes are costlier to maintain and rim brakes are fine enough to provide the stopping power you need. Also, at this price, you won't get the best of suspension and disc brakes, so, no point increasing the weight of the bike and have the hassle of maintaining it.
Firefox Rapide 21s is a good bike and I can see a price drop now on it, it's available for 20k. If possible, go try out both the bikes, Firefox Rapide 21s and Triad X4 yourself. You can consider some Montra hybrid bikes as well.
Thank you @sahil1033 @jileg @mGforCe
I finally decided to go with Firefox Rapide. Got it @ 18.3k locally with side stand, bell, bottle holder & mudguard. I took test ride on 19 inch model, I am 5 5" so needed 18 inch which I will get in 5-6 days!
Enjoy your rides 😊
Do tell us your review about your new cycle after a few days 🙂

@jileg @mGforCe
Tell me your budget, usage pattern, purpose and most importantly riding conditions, preferably city will justify. Be as specific as you can be and extended budget too.
I can guide you accordingly better then.
So the search continues....
Even if you buy 14k worth bicycle and after sometime you won't feel like enjoying it much, that will be a waste of money. Mere 6k - 8k more you would've invested and it would be a great buy.
Give it a thought deeply. I've said this before too, bicycles are costly now, especially after Covid-19 pandemic ... so, if you're getting something for less, there's bound to be something of inferior quality. Good things come at a good price.
Also, go to physical shops and try them out yourself, get to know your frame size (utmost important) and my suggestion would be to buy offline if you get a good bargain.
If you're confused and Decathlon is available in your city, go ahead and buy from them. You'll have peace of mind in terms of parts availability, servicing etc.
Heads up, cycling is an expensive affair, servicing alone costs around Rs. 1k ... so, account everything while purchasing. I've helped people buy road bikes, hybrid bikes and they've been happy with their purchase.
One person was buying Firefox Bad Attitude but I made him buy Firefox Rapide for an extra 10k and he's quite happy with his purchase. The lightweight frame, efficient drivetrain ... all of it makes up for a longer and happier journey. If you won't like you cheap MTB, you're bound to discontinue this sport very soon.
Don't believe me, go ahead, try out as many bicycles as you can. Go to Track & Trail, Decathlon, Firefox exclusive stores ... all of them will let you try out their bicycles for a round or two. If possible, rent out specific bicycles before narrowing down.
Hope this helps! But don't get a MTB for normal cycling on road.
