Hi friends, i want to upgrade my Desktop CPU. Budget is around 30k. Assembled cpu required. Changing only cpu, rest all things keeping same.

Not looking for laptops.

Usage: Virtualization, Hadoop test setup, dual boot windows, surfing, ms office, pdf, Photoshop, web development, storage.

I have fixed this: Intel i5 9th gen (9400), H310 MS2 Gigabyte motherboard, 8GB DDR4 2666Mhz Kingston/Corsair, 1TB HDD (5400/7200 rpm), iBall Cabinet.

Discussion invited….

Any review on H310 motherboards? Any model specific suggestion?

Considering at least a few of the applications are CPU intensive and I presume heavily multi-threaded the 6-core/12-thread Ryzen R5 1600...3k should be the better performer. Or get the 8-core R7 1700 for a few thousand more. Plus the boxed cooler is way better. AMD mobos are usually cheaper as well. You would I imagine need at least 16GB RAM to begin with.

Thanks. Any views on intel?

The 14nm shortage has pushed up the prices of all Intel CPUs. 8 core versions are especially overpriced. So I guess the 9400 is the one to get unless you plan to overclock in which case the 8600k or its 9th gen. equivalent. But you will have to invest in a more expensive Z390 series mobo as well. And IIRC they don’t come with a cooler. The F-series ones lack the integrated GPU.

9400 or 9400F? I have no plans to overclock.

Do you already have a discrete GPU or planning to get one? If the answer is no to both then get the 9400. As mentioned above the F-series lacks integrated GPU just like Ryzen series.
BTW are you buying offline/online? Other than a few specialist sites like Primeabgb, Mdcomputers etc PC components are significantly costlier as compared to offline in most cases even taking into account cashback/Bank offers sometimes.
Primeabgb only has the 9400F listed currently for 15k.

I do not have GPU and not planning to buy.

Buying offline.

I do not see 9400 anywhere online for buying yet, hence not sure about price.

My doubt is will 9400F suffice without GPU for my above mentioned usage.

Also, if not 9th gen then which 8th gen do u suggest?

I am looking at H310M A 2.0 MoBo, unaware of price yet as this too isn’t available online.

Without a GPU whether integrated or discrete how will you output the video to the display? Its strange you mentioned pro level workloads yet you are confused regarding basic terminologies! Is is for someone else?
To summarize for 9400F you have compulsorily arrange for a discrete i.e. external GPU. Also check whether a cooler is included or not.
Are you in a hurry? Cause AMD Ryzen 3rd gen. is expected in Q3 and its again expected to increase the core count significantly.
Edit: Plenty of H310M boards listed here https://www.primeabgb.com/?s=H310&post_type=p...ct
