hmm not sure about NTPC bonds as i dont hold them

but bonds in general are like the following with interest credit

Usually the interest is credited to bond holders bank account , till he/she is holding a bond, if someone "sells bond" before "interest credit" then the receiving party that buys your bond will get that interest

If you sell bonds before the interest record date you will not get any interest from the ntpc. Prices on the secondary market are quotes inclusive of interest component. So when you sell the bonds before the record date, the buyer will get the interest.

They will be treated just like normal equity instrument. You will receive the amount you sold the bond for. If you sell it on or after record date, only then you receive the interest. Interest will be credited to the bank account associated with your broker.

The market price of bonds gets adjusted based on current interest rates. So if the bond has higher coupon rate of interest, you will be required to pay a premium to buy them. No real gain. However, there are some tax free (interest is tax exempt) bonds which can be used for tax planning.
