For passport police verification – do the applicant has to visit the police station ?
- in passport office, they told police officer week visit your home.
But the police officer called and asked to come to police station. Even in call applicant asked them to come home, saying officers told like that only.

Applicant is a woman.
She is not comfortable to go to police station. Will they come out we only have to go ?

They are supposed to visit applicant’s home but often they call applicant to police station.
Your choice, u can even ignore them if they do not come as police verification is not mandatory except for crime accused
Had to shout at police at home at the end as he was not respecting nbrs whom he called as witness and started asking for all certificates including a document from HR dept.
I said except aadhaar no other document I will share! he was angry and asked to come to station next day, I said I will not visit and if u want send negative report with which I will deal in court.
He sent positive report and got passport

That is the harsh reality. I know a neighbour who has this verification job. Never visits any house and asks them to come, and that too at his home. Also people pay him bribe even though they reduced his effort because nobody wants negative report.

Depends on city to city ..
In case you happen to be in big city/town most likely you will have to visit police station (they have dedicated passport desk). Small cities they will visit your home

In my parents case no verification was done

Of course Yes, else its not worth mentioning here.
According to latest rules Police verification is not mandatory, though station gets our file and station is supposed to verify their records for criminal cases and report back without any applicant’s interaction. But these people for bribe keep following old procedure, this is what I argued with him that day and after he left in jiffy asking me to visit station next day, I did not visit, and after a week rcvd SMS “police verification done” later passport rcvd.

Isi karan desh doob raha hai. My friend faced the same like a month back. That rishwatkhor asked for Rs. 1000. He said you are going to a foreign country hamare chai paani ka khyal rakho. It was settled for Rs. 700.

You mean one will have to take a print out of the same? No police verification?

Usually, a policeman should come to the applicant’s home and take the xerox proof and take the signature of the applicant and two vitness signs as well but, for me also yesterday they called me to come to nearby town for my passport renewal verification. I only went there and submitted documents.

My police verification was done in the police station. My permanent home address is in village. In village they rarely come to premises for police verification. Someone from PS phoned me to come to xyz police along documentation both xerox original. I told him to I currently living in Patna I not possible for me to come for PV on same day. He told me no problem, they hold verification for about a week or two, even if did not come there, they will return the verification application. I reached the next day. When I reached there, a hawadaar told why you are here. I told him for passport police verification. He called the daroga, & told me to go to daroga babu office.
The inspector questioned some basic questions like where I live, permanent address, what I do, told to name some of my relatives (blood relation) that live in the village, their phone number (if I know)
He checked my documents that submitted during the passport application. Lastly he told if my name ever reported in police.

I said NO. Be honest here, don’t falsify they do background check, so don’t be smart. After that he told me to go. I was expecting he will demand some chai-pani.
I applied passport to gulf but for family health issues I did not go.

Still a hard copy with a chip embedded will be needed. Not really an “e-passport” thing. Moreover that article says nothing about the police verification.
The existing passport holders, will they have to shell out more money for this?

The chip at the front of the passport will come with an internationally recognized logo meant for e-passports. Regarding procedures for applying, all remain the same, i.e., from filing the application form on the Indian government website to choosing your location and date of the appointment.

Passport verification is a free fund for police for getting their daily bhatta
Most of them will either call you to police station or if somehow comes to home, they ask for money

This verification process is a joke in itself

Ye wahi Zee TV/Aajtak wala nano chip to nahi jo public Rs. 2000 ke note mein aajtak dhoond rahi hai, 2016 se.

By the way purpose of microchip is to prevent use of fake passports which are very common as it’s not possible to verify genuineness of the passport in another country, which can only see the physical entries in the booklet.

Did they ask for Rs. 500 kharcha pani? In my case the thulla begged for kharcha pani for each of the three members of the family, in Delhi. I had to pay Rs. 500 each.

In Delhi, they always come to your house to verify how long you have been living there, which is the main purpose in addition to criminal record which can be verified in the police station itself

When I applied 3years ago.
Police constable or someone came to my house.
Took documents and witness sign from two of my neighbors.
When we offered him bribe(we heard we have to bribe) he shouted and said never to bribe anyone and I will be punished if repeated.
Such a nice policeman

They do exist esp. in South India.

He didn’t even had tea and snacks which we offered.
I have huge respect and still remember exactly after 3years
