Dried Fruits, A Brand New Perspective

Well, I copied the table from Types of Dry Fruits: 18 Different Varieties of Dry Fruits Name List. Guess what I searched in the Wikipedia and found an even more exhaustive list. So, naturally I am not pasting that table here.
We all know about the famous Pistachios, Almonds, Dates etc. And they are priced very steeply. Lately I was comparing nutritional value of our simple, sasta (cheap), sundar (pretty), tikau (durable) Peanuts with its pricier counterparts e.g. almonds, pista, walnuts etc. And check what I have found.
Peanuts vs Walnuts
Image source for both pics are walnut-vs-peanut
Peanuts vs Almonds
Peanut vs Pistachio
So, our peanut is not very far from being a super food and the best part is that it's cheap and widely available on streets.
And there are really good, underrated but yet steeply priced dried fruits are there. Ex: Anjeer (Dried figs).
Kishmish (Raisin) Vs Khajoor (Dates)
Both images are sourced from Raisin vs Dates
Now, dates have different varieties and so do the raisins. But one can easily get a 500 gm pack under 150. Now, dates have seeds and raisins usually don't. So, if we consider the weight of those date seeds then raisins will serve the nutritional purpose the way dates do. No?
Cautions
- Since, a typical fruit has 80~90% water content. But a dried fruit has around 20% water percentage left in it. So, they might fit in our hand but their fresh counterparts might not. So, they can cause issues in body if taken profusely. Check this out Do You Know Consuming Excessive Dry Fruits Can Have Adverse Effects On Your Health?
- Dental cavities. Dried fruits like Anjeer, kishmish, dates have fructose in em. And most dry fruits are kinda very sticky in nature. So, clean your teeth properly. Even munching on peanuts can cause tooth decay.
- If walnut is broken using teeth then teeth can chip off.
- Almonds are available in many forms ex California, Gurbandi, Mamra etc. But it has traces of hydrogen cyanide in it. Beware of bitter almonds. They can cause death. Apparently roasting, soaking etc can make em to safe to eat. That's why Californian almonds are pasteurized. That's good. But if they get disinfected with PPO then we will have a problem. PPO is a very toxic and potent carcinogen. Even processing of cashews involve high heat. So, if they are available in raw format then be very cautious.
- Body can't process raw foods that efficiently. If nuts are taken in roasted format then it's easy for gut.

Cautions
Yes, peanuts have always been known to have 'some' nutritional benefits as the other nuts.
.
One caution item.. related to them (in so far as I recollect) is that.. it is inherent for such sub-soil food stuffs .. which grow within the pods... to devop certsin type of fungal groth or other microbial activity .
.
At-least iin the west.. many such products.. with peanuts in them... parents simply avoid giving to kids under 5 years of age.
.
May be it is not about age... but the young body not understanding or knowing.. what to fight back.. and how.
Now compare the vitamins/minerals in sunflower seeds vs all these 'famous' & costly dry fruits.
/* If walnut is broken using teeth then teeth can chip off. */
Few exceptions for those who use vicco vajradanti .
BTW very good info.
Aese he thodi, peanuts ko gareebo ka badaam kaha jata hai, and in this winter season peanuts and gur are recommended.
Dried Fruits have become luxury food and unaffordable for 98% of the people to consume in such quantity, for its good effects or bad affects to show up in the body.
Peanut is unfortunately not a nut. It's a seed.
peanut butter is sometimes cheaper than peanut how is this possible😜

Because peanut is healthy and peanut butter is not.

Toh iska matlab hum subah subah ameeron ki tarah uthate hein because subah subah 6-7 baadam (600-700₹/kg) daily Raat ko sone se pehle tv dekhte dekhte gareebon ki moongfali (100-120₹/kg) cheel ke khaate hein.
Hence the translation fits - Breakfast like a king, dinner like a pauper 😂
It is same as a simple gym and a High class one body dono jgh banta h pr simple wali me mehnat apne ko krna pdta expensive comfort hota ac ,spa, cafeteria and a good vibe
Same goes here pista has it's own taste and texture and badam also and the difference in rates is because of the habitat it need and amount of efforts , peanuts are available in mass quantity
Biki bhai… somewhere I read that protein profile of peanuts is inferior to that of almonds & thats the reason behind premium price of almonds. I don’t know details. Is this true?

Almonds are pricey because of GI tags, limited supplies etc etc. 🙂🥰

Peanut's protein profile is inferior. It's a fact. 🙂

Peanut butter is roasted peanuts nuts which is grinded with just a pinch of salt...
No water, butter or oil necessary to be added...
So there's nothing unhealthy about that...
Bread slices with peanut butter, jam, bananas grilled with a spoon of butter is a delicious quick treat

Big companies procure raw materials from the main source directly in bulk quantities... The supply chain expenses are included in the price tag for customers... Hence what we pay per kilo for it is almost double or more...
Even when selling at discounted price, the manufacturer is still in profits...

If it's homemade and used in moderation then it's all Bueno. Otherwise they and rapeseed oil, veggie oil, stabilizers, preservatives, sugar, etc.
🙂
Authentically peanut butter is just plain roasted nuts without even butter.
Hence suggesting homemade...
it's quick and easy to prepare at home and can be stored upto a month in refrigerator without any additives...
But freshly prepared can be flavourful if u have roasted nuts stored...
Store bought can be adulterated...

The Reliance store at my place sells decent quality shelled groundnuts at Rs 130 odd per kg loose. Used to be significantly less, just over a hundred rupees some months back. Also I vaguely remember coming across a 25kg sack just outside their store room, waiting to be unloaded, costing barely over Rs 100/kg a couple of months ago.

But everyone has not access to dmart naa. 🙂 Quality of the peanuts also decides the price. 🙂🙂
