Electric Vehicle Purchase Guidance

Hello Dimers,
Iam confused between the options available in Electric Scooters, the variants are so close in terms of price, that we end up choosing the high end model...
Finalized on Ola S1 Pro Model for it's claimed 181 km range but the reviews are not so good, the final price for ola S1 Pro is coming at 125000 inclusive of road tax and third party insurance and state subsidy.
Do someone have any thoughts on the purchase, the price terms are
140000 - Ather 450X - 3.7W - 146KM
125000 - OLA S1 Pro - 4W - 181KM Range
125000 - Bajaj Chetak - 90 KM
116000 - TVS IQube S - 100 KM
117000 - Ather 450 Plus - 3.7W - 108KM Range
102000 - Ola S1 Air - 4W - 165 KM Range
100000 - OLA S1 - 3W - 141KM Range

Some questions
Ola is providing insurance at double the normal price, opting for other insurance directly has any disadvantage
The build quality is worse for ev, should petrol vehicle be considered For a person who daily drives around 30 KM.
Any other points to be kept in mind while purchasing an ev

No smart feature in Okinawa. OP wants maps on ev. So only better option is Ather 450x among he mentioned. Good build and quality.

I have Okinawa ipraise from past 4 years now. I am happy with my ipraise, no regular maintenance cost.

@Vijay007 Also make sure you have charging socket in your parking as ather, ola and some others have non removable battery. Okinawa has removable battery so can be charged in house.

My perspective regarding electric scooters , we are in first generation of it especially in Inida  and there will many shortcoming regarding it irrespective of the company , so better hold your thought in buying e scooter .

Agreed, but purchasing a vehicle is very urgent now, so need to purchase it, second hand vehicles carry at lot risk, first hand petrol vehicle are similarly priced with EVs having better features such as map, and cost benefit, almost everyone considering a new two wheeler is opting for electric, so it will be a tough choice to select a petrol one at this moment.

Will suggest ather over ola anyday. been using ather since 1 and half year no issues build quality is sturdy and drives like butter, on the other hand friend got an ola and has been to service centre twice in six months, and has had range drop issues multiple times. i would pay 15k extra for the piece of mind

On road cost of Activa/Jupiter 110 cc ~ 90k.

At 30km/day or around 1000km/month, you're savings would be:
Avg cost per km ICE (at 40km/l mileage in the first 2-3 years) - Rs 2.50 / km
Avg cost per km EV ~ Rs. 0.20-0.30/km
So savings per km is ~ 2.20 -2.30 Rs...assume it conservatively at Rs. 2

monthly savings ~ Rs. 2000.
So, if you pay 50k more (140k for Ather X), then you would need 25 months to cross-over into the savings side.

Also note, with EV you might have abnormal/abrupt costs since its not tested on the roads for years like ICEs.

Take your call.

ICE - At 100 Rs/lit petrol... with 40 km/l mileage... its 2.50 Rs/ km... for the first 3 years assumed the avg mileage at 40.

EV - had assumed 2-3 units for a full charge (dont remember where but had read the calc for the 2-3 units). So, ~ 20-30 Rs for 100 km... so leads to Rs. 0.20-0.30 / km

Like Atomberg (fans), they started off with much fanfare that they are a desi company.

But when it came to timely and qualified, experienced support in hinterland towns,

initially at-least there were too many hiccups. ‏‏

I own Ola S1 Pro from over a year now.

I would suggest you NOT to go with hub motor like Ola S1 Air.

Also Ola is now charging for every service visit if not opted for subscription named as "Ola Care" which costs ₹2999 onwards.

I would also suggest you to wait more for Simple One.

For just a 30 km per day ride, just buy a time tested ICE. It's a no brainer.

could understand the need but would suggest to give 2 more years especially summer time to confirm on the reliability of EV tech especially the batteries in scooters and go for it in 2026 as all should have been done and dusted by then or would rather say tried/tested all feasible/possible environmental conditions and min 4-5yrs of usage to see if it really matches what the manufactures say or even comes close to their expectations as currently none has gone through that thorough testing period time and also most of us don't want to change their 2wheelers for min 8+yrs

Can you explain a bit more please

What is meant by hub motor on S1 air?

Is electric vehicle need service? How many kilometres between each service and how much they charging?

Please check on YouTube for proper explanation of the difference between motors in electric vehicles such as hub motor, mid drive motor, etc.

Servicing is needed in all vehicles such as washing, etc. But there is no need for engine oil change as in EVs there is no engine as motor is present inside it.
