GUYS, one of my colleagues son has written FTRE ( fiitjee exam to get into iit training) and got 35% scholarship( i still believe its name sake 😜) and contemplating whether to take online or offline.
Whether his son would be able to cope up with the speed they teach ( he is fairly ok in studies).
Importantly the fees for 4year online is Whooping 3.5L that to 18 hours a week for ~ 42 weeks per year.
Anyone whose son is studying or already taken up, can shed somelight? Some say kota after 10th is good.
Please enlighten.

IIT for most is dream to be chased, atleast gives them satisfaction that they tried. 😀. I am still living because of this satisfaction and a story in store for my kids motivation already 😉.
If not IIT atleast will get in NITS or some other premiere institutes. 🤔

Ex-FIITJEE student here. The exam and scholarships they offer are sham (at least they used to be).. these are just mind tricks to get students admitted. People often believe that kids need to be super-smart to clear JEE entrance but that's not true (not completely).. Even an average student with superior consistency can do it!

Like someone mentioned, these scholarships are a sham.. made to make believe that your kid is an achiever already and can do much better with their coaching if you talk to them. Its a mind game to make people pay up a hefty amount as fees. Online means, they would want more and more people as possible to make more money. Delay your response and they will come up with additional discounts usually.
Coming to your point about online / offline - I personally think a regular classroom session, even if it is for 2 hours, is more effective than these online sessions. Students easily get distracted in online mode and end up doing something unwanted (you can imagine). Also, there is no control on effectiveness of learning in online sessions.. I would suggest you to ask him to take up offline classes over these online ones.
And coming to the fees, 3.5 lakhs for 4 years is nominal (atleast in big cities) nowadays. But I would like to get offline classes for this price and not online.

If it's OFFLINE and the ward of yours colleague( WOYC) have proper 7-1PM ,8-2PM schooling, investment to enroll in these coachings depends on
- Ward is not forced to take engineering/medical. It's a choice then only better results
- Schooling is not so good. (Teaching)
- FIITJEE is not at best in every region. So, taking another brand will be good after Comparison.
- @ getready said it, adding to it. What lacks in today's kids that DISCIPLINE and Consistency.
- Environment (in next part)
- Mostly coaching helps in not distracting to other things generally.
- Proper parenting
- Till 2024, no change in syallabus.
- The questions are purely from NCERT. SO, if WOYC give attention in NCERT, it'll be great for them. Take example of recent IITJEE/NEET/CUET questions. Now, coming to advanced part, if NCERT is commanded by WOYC not ratta maar type but learn thoroughly it'll give better results in XI-XII and then in advanced.
- Practical skills shouldn't be avoided as recent trends shows 5-10% questions from that.
- Kota isn't hub anymore as recent inhumane nature of Hota residents and poaching institutes, administration is active there. if WOYC never got to those tricky situations,avoid it. Main reason of distracted lies in the WOYC mind.

You know, the whole point is about solutions. The papers/questions are all over internet. Even i helped in a few and left a few 🥰.
I advised him for some professional training like akash, fittjee byjus etc. I felt it pumps up the wards confidence and a professional to help him or give solutions to. He is in CBSE curriculum.
Not easier said than done i invited this mess 😀.
The boy ( WOMC) is enthusiastic to learn and given a chance , he may prove his mettle. Its just that he ( my colleague) caught up in a confusion of what to give him best , so as i.

@playdime , WOYC should join in any coaching just to have DISCIPLINED approach and workload that will avoid distraction. ONLINE is not a good option at all. If Baalak is enthusiastic and learner, online will not be good option for 1LPA. I took package of Edurite in 2010s of app. 5K (online). Got enthusiastic for 2 months, but then CDs were of no use.
@playdime, questions are always there on internet but what's pattern is now a kid from rural area can crack IITJEE if they throughly understood and solved 10 Books. After NTA came in effect, the question are easier compared to 10 years back but ridiculous cutoffs.
Solution lies in the Confidence.
Sum up: OFFLINE, Guardian/Parents should be always behind WOYC, Attend functions(no social cutoff), less social media, more social meet-ups.

your sumup for sure is another point we are debating and you know i copied some points from here 
and my colleague is impressed with my points. Chai/samosa on hin now Otherthing i pointed out is , for online class the recording will be available abd can be rewinded as many times as we want. Offline, no such facility and on top just busted with another news that offline addition cost if around 80k to 1L may come up in addition.

IIT JEE exams for graduation course and PG courses demand understanding of things in basest possible level. They need real world practical examples. Example: I press a key on my keyboard. Question can be like, spring constant of the spring underneath the key is K. It requires this much travel to register a signal. A voltage value will be given which registers the on/off status of the key. Now a pingpong ball falls from certain height on that key. What shall be the value of that voltage, is the switch on? These things need detailed understanding of things.
Honestly 10+2 is an extension of the things we have studied in 8th, 9th and 10th classes. 🙂If one can arrange one's finances right then I would ask the kid to do really well in those classes. And have good extra curricular activities and document them properly. Write the SIT and study abroad where SIT score is accepted. And if we are aiming for IIT-JEE then also the kid has to be able to correlate and map different concepts flawlessly. And for that one needs good teachers, proper books and a lot of stimulation. If the online classes can impart those things then go for it as I have not experienced FIT JEE in person.
In the end it matters what the kid wants.

Understanding part is something neither he nor i would be able to asses. We are just avg. old school goers without much of the things we are hearing now, but we do talk about and think little high about kids. Avg. Parenting i know 😀.
Like any other avg. parent the assessment that we can understand is result of exam.
To put in raw terms, we wanted a deal with a educational institute that imparts some good in his life.
Now practicality and understanding concepts, testing the boys capabilities are beyond our comprehension standards 😑.
We have not zeroed in on that deal maker and yesterday was the first quote we got 😀

Guys, FIIT JEE admission T& C s are great.
Two such gems
1. If ward gets below the marks they get in their tenure of 4yrs in internal tests then they treat that the ward has cheated while writing their FTREE exam ( for scholarship) and put a fine of 10L.
2. For any reason if the ward discontinues he has to full 4 years fee..
Many such conditions.
I am nit sure how parents are singing in.
It is so complicated legally.
