Finally 5G Spectrum Trials Approved By Government; No Chinese Tech For Trials

“The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) approved today permissions to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for conducting trials for use and applications of 5G technology. The applicant TSPs include Bharti Airtel Ltd, Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd, Vodafone Idea Ltd and MTNL,” Telecom Department said in a statement.
Telecom Department on Tuesday, May 4, gave go-ahead for 5G technology and spectrum trials to telecom service providers (TSPs). Bharti Airtel, Reliance JioInfocomm, Vodafone Idea and MTNL will start 5G trials in different locations across India to cover rural, semi-urban and urban areas.
The list of telecom gear makers approved for trials include Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, C-DOT and Reliance Jio’s indigenously developed technologies. This means that Chinese gear makers will not be part of the 5G trials.

Jio’s 4G is struggling to get the desired speed ..
I wonder what speed 5G will they provide. 
Hope Airtel and Vi provided speed as per 5G standards.
before hypernationalism and Content has been removed did us in… they DID move directly to 4G (from 2G) in certain rural areas of a few circles.
(but once things went cold with the ban on PRC vendors or the ‘hype’ of the ban… the rest of the project stopped i its tracks😔. so much so that once when i inquired a direct BSNL employee about the likelihood of 4G services starting at a certain location he tersely retorted that i should put that questiin to His Holiness TheLie Lama instead)

) was fairly tom-tommed too (i… often heard that announcement tune when waiting on IVR of BSNL CC … back then) and even many here (not me)
many here got to use its unlimited 4G …simply by using the 1099/1098 plan in Bengaluru or whatever areas had 4G connectivity.
but overall yes😔 in the past decade or so, systematically it was incrementally “privatised”.
almost all functions (INCLUDING CORE FUNCTIONS like network ops., exchange hardware) were gradually doled out to vendors.
and no trophies for guessing how those tenders were awarded.
the termites within have left a barebone outer shell now which holds precious little within.
(un)surprisingly, just like a Centaur Hotel (the one near Bombay Airport), VSNL it too shall make a complete turnaround and give windfall profits to its private owners soon after they acquire it for a pittance.
I dunno why, every media article is using this reference “Jio’s Indigenously developed technologies”
Radisys Corporation ( American tech company, acquired by Jio 2 years back ) deserved a mention ( + Qualcomm) alongside JioPlatforms, as they are the real people behind this new tech
The same company which was a part of chinese 5G deployment with Intel (+ Qualcomm here in India)

So now that it is a part of Jio Platforms (Similar to Xiaomi Ecosystem in China – but the product name includes Original OEM too).. someone decided to completely ignore the hard work :/
