Flipkart delivery Boy fraud - need suggestions

So I ordered a Moto G64 (12+256) through Flipkart on August 6th against the exchange of a Redmi 6A which was in excellent condition, without a single scratch, and in flawless condition, Flipkart offered me ₹2800 for the exchange.

On the 7th, the delivery guy came, and since it was drizzling outside, I asked him to come inside.
He said it was okay and asked for the exchange device. After inspecting it, he found a minor chipping of paint near the memory card slot (not even visible with a normal look) and said he could only offer the exchange value for good condition, which was ₹2260 (as shown in the Flipkart app). He asked me to pay ₹540, and as my sister urgently needed a smartphone, she agreed.

Now things started getting fishy. He began opening the Flipkart packaging of the new device (not the Motorola packaging) and asked for the phone I used to place the order to crosscheck the product and specifications. After I gave it to him, he asked me to open the new device box and check for any issues.

Then, I heard a message notification on my phone which was in his hands. He seemed to hide the screen by tilting it towards himself, claiming to protect my phone from the rain. I ignored this and continued checking the new device. After he handed my phone , I immediately checked the message center but found no recent message. This made me suspicious, and when he saw me checking for messages, he suddenly seemed hurried and demanded the ₹540 payment in cash. I asked him to show the Flipkart QR code, but he refused and insisted on cash only. Although I had cash, I said I didn't, so he asked me to pay through his own QR code.

An hour later, I checked my Flipkart account and saw the exchange value was ₹2800. Checking my notification history, I found that the message was about the exchange approval which the delivery guy had deleted. I confirmed with Flipkart customer support that ₹2800 was the correct exchange value. I've filed a complaint, and the resolution is expected by the 10th. This is my first exchange with Flipkart. Has anyone else faced a similar issue?

First Rule First - Never hand over your Phone to any Person especially Unknown
(Delivery Guys, Installation Guys , Repairing Guys) under any circumstances
Incase utmost required ask them to guide with the device in your hand till the point required with no personal info visible

Keep away your device while scrolling Any Personal info / pictures or performing any Transactions  & show the final outcome as/if required

One last but not least thing to remember - Never share OTP without going through the entire message in a hurry
Also double check everything is as per your fulfilment for such actions as exchange , complaint feedback ,installation etc.

@sastasunder Do you have his personal number? Are there any CCTV cameras installed nearby. File an FIR against him even if you only have his phone number. One phone call from the police will scare the hell out of him.

Even if he doesn't return the money after the police complaint, he will definitely not do any such frauds with other people in the Future.

Or else you can just consider it charity and move on.

First of all thanks for your comment bro and today I got the money back after talking to a senior executive and to my surprise he just processed a giftcard worth 540 rs over the call ( which is quite rare with flipkart).
And yes I had called the delivery guy in hope that he will send the amount back if I scare him by saying that i have all the proofs and I will complain against you, but I think it is very common to him as he upfront said " Bhaiya direct flipkart me complaint kro me to nhi de rha paise".

And now as I have got my money back I don't wanna escalate this issue. But yes I have asked the executive to update me about the action taken against the delivery boy.

U will get a sms which have a flipkart link to confirm the exchange.. which will have your exact exchange amount. And he took your phone to confirm by himself as to cheat.

Exactly bro and he even deleted that message.

This scene reminds me of Rocket Singh where Ranbir Kapoor is trying to run his own business under the company’s nose, bending the rules to make a quick buck. It feels like that delivery guy was pulling a similar stunt lowering the exchange value, deleting your messages, and pocketing the extra. He seemed smart; I wonder how many times he’s done this! Flipkart needs to step up and fix this!

Totally relatable.
And I was just calculating that even if he is able to do the same with 5 customer daily with an average of 500 rs each it comes to 75000 PM through this only, excluding his regular pay.

in our household, we do not even use or check other family member's phones.. unless like it is a call from someone important and the family member is not immediately available or nearby (like in the loo or in the garage/garden and so on).

Kind of strange thus, to simple hand over one's personal device to a stranger.. that too in a way as to be unaware of what they are doing.

And to top it up.. hand them the main device while it is phucking pouring outside.

Also, once some (Amazon) D.A. marked a measly 200-300 rupee item as O.B.D. on his touchscreen and i noticed it and threw a fit. Did not let him leave and immediately complained to customer care and had them e-mail me the confirmation of having raised the issue to the logistics team.

I never prefer open box delivery.. except when cousin would send me items from Jabong and being COD.. it was better to check for size, fit and reject if not okay.

Thus this is another big concern that a mere delivery associate can play such psychological games or make one eat out of his palms.

Thirdly, I myself have lost over 55000 rupees in 2005-2006 after giving a lakh rupees in loan to a shopkeeper and he died after repaying hardly 45000 and the family refused any knowledge.

So giving even a paise without paperwork/proof is actually kissing the funds goodbye.

So if you/anyone are paying someone in cash or in their personal wallet.. it is as good as a 'tip' they received.

Also, for someone to think that the original device or phone is needed for any delivery to complete. I do not know!🤷🏻‍♂ At most.. OTPs are needed.. nothing else.

There was no reason for the customer's phone to be in the phucking D.A's possession.

Anyway, to answer your query. No, personally have not come across such instances with respect to e-commerce but in other situations yes.. people take devices in good faith and do mischief.

As for Flipkart.. better not to keep hopes high.

If you haven't already e-mailed [email protected]/[email protected] then may be it is time to do so now.

If this was my own case or of my family member.. i would find out if it was EKL/ Ekart Limited. And if so.. then was it their vendors and locally.. taken matters into my own hand .

Usually the vendors also hire sub contractors locally. Especially Elastic Run does. It is not that difficult to find out from Ekart delivery associates from any area I the city/town.. about physical address of the last mile hub/office that serves your building/ house.

The team leaders there.. also have a in-charge or manager.

Flipkart will keep extending that deadline from August 10th to maybe even August end or beyond, so do not get perturbed.

If anyone calls in response to the e-mail send to the escalation team (cs-head address), better sound doubtful and tell them that you sound like a L2 (Level 2) agent only. Arrange me a call back from your L3/L4 senior. This way.. even within the so called escalations, you cam initially push for the incident ID to have annotations from a senior.

Oh yes, for EVERY interaction RELIGIOUSLY ask for the agents to dictate/ read out the incident ID to you. The one which they are annotating. And for any calls where ANY commitment is being made.. do pressurise them to acknowledge that in writing.. via e-mail.

Like if I call you and tell you.. Sir i will call you back tomorrow or call you back in ten minutes. Then even for that: okay ma'am/sir my lawyer cousin has asked to take all such key points in writing. So please first send the e-mail stating that you (So and so/ name if person) will call us back on ___day, August ××, 2024 by hh:mm hours.

Basically ask for summary e-mail for every call from Bengaluru, Hyderabad teams.

Bro, firstly, I really appreciate your suggestions, and thankfully, I got the money back today after talking to a senior executive. And you were right; they had extended my deadline to the 11th, and I got so pissed off that I asked the customer care executive to transfer the call to the senior and told him that I will not disconnect this call until u transfer my call and after I said this he within couple of minutes transferred the call and i got the amount credited over the call by the senior executive.

Bro, today I received the amount back as a gift card after talking to a senior executive. And I tried finding the email address of Ekart but couldn't find it. If you have their email address, please share it, and I will surely write them an email in order to prevent such incidents in the future.

Bro, if he had done this then perhaps I would never have had the chance to introduce you all to this type of scam.

And thankfully I got my money back today.

I too faced such issues on flipkart in past, they spot minute defects that even can't be seen under magnifying glass, i directly rejected there claim and told them to cancel my order i don't want to exchange my old mobile for such low price. Next time same mobile was exchange on amazon after 4-5 months and exchange was without any issues, he just check whether mobile is working or not.

For me the Ekart delivery boy installed some software that in the old mobile which  i was exchanging for a new mobile. And he showed some dots and said this is the issue and said he will cancel the exchange. I said ok cancel then he was writing comment as screen damage where as the mobile screen was in absolute gr8 condition. And upon asking he said that the reason he will mention. And when the argument started he said to give 500 and he will take care of such issue. I tried reaching flipkart cc but no response and being helpless i had to give him the money. Such scams by EKart delivery personnel is not tolerable. Even sometimes they are in location and when we say to come to the next street to deliver then they just leave changing the delivery date to the next date. Shame on such scamsters.
