I came to know Flipkart has stopped replacement on many phones including Motorola, Poco, Vivo, Mi etc even if you come across any issues on first day.

Recently my fri ordered Motorola and asked for replacement cause the phone was DOA. Flipkart clearly said they offer replacement only for missing items, product damaged on delivery, or wrong product delivery for Motorola products
For any other concerns, contact Motorola service centre.

Kindly take a note while ordering phone from Flipkart. This is absurd policy.

Already mentioned in the past Amazon & Flipkart are miss using there powers as there is no competition from any Indian they are making there own rules and regulation

Unless people file consumer court case even for small problems they will not change just like people do in US and other countries

There is a fine line between practicality & negativity. I am willing to spend months/year in consumer court for a 20-30k product but not something which cost 7-8k because eventually I would end up spending more on fuel cost & my time/mental peace even if I win the case with some extra compensation as interest. Also, I can tell you right now that even if you fight in consumer court you still wouldn't win in the end even if case goes up to national consumer level--High Court--Supreme Court(because fk won't stop until it secures win as it has full confidence even if it loses in lower court/forum) as it is not responsibility of ecomm platform to handle something which is already covered by manufacturer warranty(they are taking responsibility for missing items, product damaged during delivery & wrong product delivery which is ideally their only responsibilities as they are not the ones responsible for manufacturing a defective product that won't even start).

This is what happens when you compare apples with oranges. Many things in developed nations work not because of laws & technicalities but because of public perception & societal pressure. Strictly going by law, no ecomm platform is responsible for anything other than the reasons mentioned above. Anything else is courtesy on the part of ecomm platform & in India such things don't last because of ppl who heavily misuse such things & the end result is always this.

Few years back i brought micromax dual sim for my dad

Everything was working but  memory card not working

The shopkeeper replace the phone under DOA policy

Similar incident happened with my friend also but he have to wait 1 week because same model was not available with shopkeeper

I am not recommending anyone to buy offline but when comes to DOA it is responsibility of person / shop / website they do your replacement

If I am ceo of some company then the first thing I would do is comparing the losses from such DOA returns versus loss in sales due to the new policy & legal expenses due to all the cases & if former is still more then no need to think twice about selecting the new policy.

Exactly same thing if Amazon and Flipkart gets more complaint they will definitely change the policy

Even if 1 consumer wins in 100 that will be more lose to these companies

in consumer court people got 10000 for complaint against carry bags which cost under 10

Finally justice delay not denied

Lena ho to order Lelo nahi to vapas jayega esa bolte hai . Bhot faltu ka kiya hai FK ne . Policy to bhot accha hai OBD ka lekin wo sahi se laagu bhi karna chahiye . Ek baar OTP diya to game over ... Aur ye brand service centre replacement only policy to sabse ghatiya policy hai . Yaha pr service centre 120-150km hote hai dur , pura 1 din chala jataa hai aana jaana waha service centre wala bhi repair/replykrke dega ya nahi same day no idea . rage . Kuch faltu users ke vajah se aaj genuine users pr ye din aa gaye hai . Aur lgta hai aapne wale time pr to offline brand authorised store hi ek aacha option hone wala hai cry offer nahi kuch nahi MRP pr Lelo

Retailers would replace it immediately as you would open the box right away

Replacement only if they cannot fix the phone (Apart from Apple, Sony used to do it before it vanished from Indian market). They might offer a replacement (New/Refurbished) if the phone arrives dead (Say 10-15 days from product delivery) but in any other case.. they just fix them

This is something serious! You mean pay & order phone >if unlucky, got dead phone>go to service centre >they'll repair phone (mostly keep phone with them for 5-7 days) >if not then they may give refurbish phone?

In short pay for new phone & get refurbished second hand phone?

If this true, seller can misuse this policy by sending faulty phones & when we raise complaint flipkart just wash their hand by saying go to service center. Their is also uncertainty if the service center honor warranty in some cases.

Then Next step would be Companies displaying a poster saying "Warranty not valid if bought from 3rd party sites/sellers".
Already some companies are following it.

I remember, they used to send their engineer(from jeeves) to do 1st level troubleshooting and checking and after that (if jeeves engineer confirms) they process the replace/return request. Have they stopped this now.?

Everything is stopped bhai. Check the replacement policy. No replacement, troubleshooting nothing for any faults on phone.

Now this is a clear example and should be the top comment. Mi wont help, flipkart wont replace and in the end, customers like us will suffer.

In 2018 i purchased Mi A1 from Mi website which had faulty Headphone jack. Replacement period was 10 days from delivery date. For replacement mi website asked for some sheet mentioning fault from authorised service center. Went to nearest service center where the dumb guy started counting 10 days period from order. Went to other center where the experienced guy gave me the sheet in few minutes. Mentioned it's number to customer care and ordered replacement.
The weirdest part was both customer care & service center guys are ready to accept the headphone fault only if checked with Mi earphones as if they are superior brand in this segment and all others are duplicates. 🤦

Also, People in US /UK or any other country do not abuse the system even if the dealers are providing No questions asked return or replacement. But you know what happens if they allow it in India

Forget about allowing return policy in India..You know how other nationals abusing the return policy in US.They just use the products for 30 days and just return ( since no question asked).

Unfortunately this will be the case from now on. They might not have particularly considered DOA scenario but handling excessive replacements is a mess, that too when e-comm portal don't have a medium to get rid of these used/returned devices (FK discontinued the refurbished portal "2GUD" and Amazon doesn't sell a lot of branded phones via its renewed/refurbished Appario. store, it is just Samsung and Nokia). Eventually these devices will be sent back to brand and if found no issues, brands might even repackage them, sell as new and no one would find out but again too much work (Makes me wonder if this is a collective decision between brands and FK/Amazon)

Some might think, getting phones from offline stores is a better idea but the only advantage here is they facilitate the replacements themselves (& they might still be refurbished depending on the brand). Instead of denying replacements completely, FK could've opted for a 10/20% restocking fee (like many US e-comm portals) and there's a possibility this might discourage casual replacers but lets see how things shape up (There should be at least self-ship guidelines, targeting those people living too far from official service centers)

Yes, every retailer will replace it, we open infront of him or he opens the box and if the product doesn't work how can he say go deal with it yourself at Service centre, I would just comeback waiving hands without buying😂

Yes, those come under "Wrong deliveries" and any E-comm partner is bound to replace them (/ issue refund)

But in the case of dead units (/ some technical defects), FK/Amazon won't be sending their inhouse agents to verify the issue. We got to visit the service center and replace the faulty units ourselves
If we go to service centres to replace our phones, do we really get new 'fresh' phones? Or refurbished? I'm talking specifically about DOA cases.

Few years back, one of my friends had some issue with his 4-5 month old iPhone, and it was replaced by Apple, but the replacement device was not a 'fresh' phone. It was refurbished. Which was understandable as he also gave in 5 month old phone. But what about DOA cases? Fresh phone is given to us in replacement by service centres? Any idea?

I don't have any replacement experience with Apple ( @raghupro should know). But i replaced quite few computer components from different brands (Gigabyte, G.Skill, CM, Seagate, WD)  via DOA and regular warranty claims (after months of use) and there's no way to tell if these are used/refurbished.. they all looked new (+ sealed w/o pricing & MFG/Import info) and the usage counter is also nil (For HDDs). Sure, brands can reset these stats (+ warranty / previous activation for phones) and most of these could be refurbished like some tech experts claim but hard to distinguish

You missed 1st step.
Step1: Pray that you won't get a brick or some soap instead of mobile.
Step2: Then hope that mobile is in working conditions.

Why wouldn't they? poco & redmi are xiaomi sub brands. Look at authorised service center locations on their sites, all 3 will have same center addresses.

Didn't got that answer from that guy bt then again in this post itself someone said brands saying to go to fk and fk saying to go to brand

Fk usually give steal deal for years old devices with this new policy need to think twice before ordering a old phone

While ordering a phone FK are displaying a message, one needs to check the phone by opening the package and then only sharing an OTP with the delivery provider. At this step, if you find that phone is missing/doa/damaged physically, you can reject the receiving. Once shared the OTP, then you cannot come and claim that it is DOA or missing in the package. I think it is a valid way of protecting themselves from fraudsters.

But the delivery guys says they were not informed about open box delivery and they only handover the box after getting the otp.

as per flipkart, you will have to deny such delivery guys, and ask them to contact at their base centre.

This has been the default policy for hard disks for some years now. You buy a hard disk & if it arrives DOA then service centre will give you a "refurbished hdd"(to make it more acceptable they nowadays say it is "as good as new" as assembled from working parts from multiple returned hdd so technically a new hdd).

@atx88

@getready A simple way to confirm is asking the customer care to give in writing via email that replacement product will be brand new manufactured retail piece which I can confirm for WD that they won't provide.

CS won't give anything in writing that these are refurbished units either because even these guys are unsure about the details
& this is where user imagination/assumptions step in
