I have a dell latitude e5420, which has 2 display ports, 1 x hdmi, 1 x vga, which a friend gifted me 4 years back, which i am still using, but it isn’t portable anymore.

The laptop’s screen is damaged few months back (half of screen has no display, tried my diy internal cable and board cleaning, but the screen needs changing for sure), plus the battery (the backup life has reduced and keyboard (few keys not functioning) needs replacing.

I replaced the keyboard and battery 2 years back, but the quality of the replacement parts was not good and it didn’t last long. Its now running on its original keyboard and battery, though not fully functional.

So I need to spend around 8 -10 k to make this portable again. Considering I can’t find quality replacement parts, don’t want to buy parts that don’t last long enough. I am planning to buy a new 14" one and looking for such models with 2 display ports.

You can use USB-C Dock/Hub and connect your laptop to multiple monitors (Latest Type-C Gen 2)

There are models with two Type-C/Thunderbolt ports that can connect to two monitors (4k*) like these
https://www.amazon.in/dp/B08P...CF
https://www.imastudent.com/asus-zenbook-14-2020...

Also I guess its possible to connect Monitor 1 via USB-C port & Monitor 2 via HDMI/Mini-Display port (Not sure*)

Managed to find one model with 2 display ports, since my requirement is only for internet browsing, this fits best only 26k.

I was looking forward to buy this model from amazon for 26k, but when I cross checked on flipkart it was selling for 24k, when i read through the reviews i figured out some customers had purchased this for 19k a few months back, so i added the item to cart yesterday and wished the priced changed next day, if not i still buy for 24k.

And guess what, I checked the price of this item first thing in the morning and the price had dropped by 4k, plus another 1k discount for prepaid order.

A straight 5k discount on something i was looking forward to buy. This was great.

What do you want to achieve anyway, dual displays will let you extend/duplicate the desktop & nothing more?

With 2 x display ports, I can use a bigger 2 external monitor setup while at home, but when I am away, i still have a portable laptop.

HDMI does not support multiple displays out of a single port; that’s only available with DisplayPort. You CAN use the USB-based adapters, but be aware that they are NOT quite the same thing. They use what’s called a DisplayLink chip that basically uses your CPU and GPU to compress image data for transmission over USB, which is then decompressed by the adapter and sent to the display. This has a few ramifications. First, the display will sometimes feel sluggish and/or reveal compression artifacts when large portions of the display area are changing at the same time, even when you have USB 3.0 and a fast CPU and GPU. This isn’t an issue if you’ll be using this display for Web browsing, email, etc, but gaming or full-screen video would not be advisable. And second, battery life will drain noticeably more quickly due to increased CPU and GPU activity.

Note also that this does NOT apply to USB Type-C adapters, since Type-C connectors actually have a real DisplayPort output wired to them, so THOSE adapters would be absolutely equivalent to connecting to a DisplayPort output.

laptops with a graphics card would be the best bet like gaming laptops.. not cheap..
