Call them & when they ask who you are, say you're Senior Inspector Daya.

if I enable call forwarding of my number to your number.. then anyone calling me.. might have their call redirected to you.
But in this case too.. it is I who is calling you.
As in, if you make a police complaint and the authorities subpoena the telecom operators for the CDR (call data records).. then it will be clear thT i am playing the game of forwarding all my incoming calls to your number.
So if by chance.. I am cling people from my number and they unable to receive and call back.. then it will be possible to trace that actually which number they called.
But if someone is using caller ID spoofing softwares and using your number as the display number.. then local police would not do enough to trace the softwares from which the call was made.. unless someone makes a threat call to the head of the state or some such minister.
So yes, one scenario: someone using caller ID spoofing services and using your number as the display number.
Other scenario is: the calls you are get on YOUR number.. werr actually made to that other unknown person/fraud. They person/fraud has unfortunately forwarded all his/her uncoming calls to your number. This is easy to trace, if police wants to.
Till then.. maybe use some call management softwares that can selectively allowed calls from some groups on your device (family group, office numbers, professional contacts saved on device).

This might also be possible.
1. Earlier, in old iphone model, I have seen my friend calling me with any number, even my number.
2. I have also tried calling by somebody else's number by using app, which used IP calling. It was possible to call through any person's number.

Just call them again after some time and tell them you are getting missed calls from their number as well.
