Can anyone suggest good range router to get the signal on 2nd floor, I’m using Airtel dsl fiber at 40mbps, installed on ground floor.
WiFi extenders may drop the speed.

if possible, use a LAN cable and attach a second router in 2nd fl.

You need Mesh Wi-Fi routers. I got couple of iBall Webwork routers.

It was breeze to set it up and everywhere I am getting more than 100mbps. Earlier I was using repeaters, but they used to drop speed. This setup has been serving good to me and I would highly recommend it.

Range depends on so many factors(like design of building, construction material used, interference from other wifi sources etc) that without actually using it in one’s place one can never be sure. Another rule of thumb is that 5 GHz wifi has a shorter range than 2.4 GHz wifi(principles pf physics). If you can afford ~5k then get asus rt-ac58u or tplink archer c7 or netgear R6350.

Do I need only router, or needed to replace existing modem router d-link dsl-224.
Is it possible to use existing modem router with new router.

You can use but unless you are comfortable with settings/know enough then I suggest to just use router(unless your internet connection is adsl type in which case having a modem is must) else you may have to spend hours configuring the whole setup.
