Not sure how many of you guys have seen this product but few years back I was completely astonished when I saw it. I was so amazed that how come such a amazingly useful thing yet so simple was not invented till now. I was like, it should be in every village or heck even every home.
It's called "Gravity Lights" as the name suggest it does exactly the same thing i.e. converting gravity into light. The inventor got inspired by seeing kids using oil lamps during his visit to Africa.
All it have is a pulley, some gears, a motor & a led. It works on the basic electromagnetic induction principle or simply uses a motor/generator to covert gravitational potential energy into electrical & no It's not a perpetual motion machine (aka infinite free energy) as we gotta work for that energy hence keeping the energy conserved. I know the idea is nothing new but making such a small yet useful product out of it was simply amazing.
There's are no batteries or solar naa nothing all we gotta do is fill in some weight in bag & lift it up to some height & bam you got yourself a light once the weight reaches down all you need to do is lift it again. As it's so simple system hence the price of product was/is estimated to be very low hence very affordable for specially poor people plus there were no need for replacement batteries & all.
But sadly it's still not properly out in the market yet even after so many years. There are many such inventions/ideas lying in dust which can really help the society. Even though patents are there to safeguard the original inventor but a lot of times it just kills the invention or at least slow it down from reaching people or being reinvented or improved.

Ps : It's not like the project is dead these guys are still working & have done some crowdfunding & all came up with some other products but I feel like it could have changed many life's already & still even now it's not a thing yet.

First I saw it on a YouTube channel "SmarterEveryDay" it's now launched here too & price is something like ₹1500 but it's kind of trial I guess.
Haha for sure they might have as it's pretty basic but being patented might have prevented it from coming or the product never catched on such publicity as I really didn't saw any of such products as it's been 10-12 years now.

Although it might look like a lot but to poor the govt. or international funding can be used to provide at discounted prices. Also there are these solar lanterns being sold nothing less than 2-3k & have made many small companies rich due to the huge demand in rural areas.
Also with mass production the price can literally go down a lot as it's quite a bare bone thing.
