Thee health minister of Haryana has tested positive for coronavirus. Taking to Twitter, Anil Vij informed that he is admitted in Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantt.
On November 20, Vij, who had offered to be the first volunteer in the phase three trials for potential coronavirus vaccine Covaxin, was administered a trial dose of the vaccine.
This is India’s first Phase 3 efficacy study for a coronavirus vaccine, and the largest Phase 3 efficacy trial ever conducted.
Covaxin, a potential vaccine against the novel coronavirus, is being developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech along with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The vaccine maker had earlier announced that it successfully completed an interim analysis of Phase 1 and 2 trials and is working on Phase 3 trials.

you can say so, perhaps because you are not a scapegoat frontline healthcare worker, employee of some PSU or a Government/ semi government employee (those who are/will be forced to mandatorily asked bullied to take medications, alleged medications even when there is barely any empirical data).
He must have taken water filled in syringes to show to the people that he is taking the first dose of vaccine

Its not written anywhere whether it was a vaccine or placebo . Not everyone gets a vaccine in these trials. 🤔
Also these trials are double blind. How these reporters got to know what he got? 😳

Yup. Sad on multiple counts
1. It seems we are pinning hopes on domestic vaccine & this is not a good outcome for a volunteer with recent vaccination.
2. Senior minister volunteers to increase public confidence but result may be opposite. Ex US presidents have also volunteered to be vaccinated on camera.
3. None of the phase 3 vaccines being tested in India have been accident free.
Hoping for some clarity & better results in future.
Edit: I applaud everyone who have volunteered for vaccination whether healthcare workers, officials or general public.
It may have been placebo that is saline water injection, half of the candidates were injected saline water and other half actual vaccine and even staff administring the vaccine do not know which is what, Manufacturer will declare results of both after 56 days of trial so could have been placebo so better wait for clarity.

Covaxin, India’s first indigienous vaccine for the highly infectious coronavirus, has been designed to be effective if a person takes two doses, Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm Bharat Biotech clarified in a statement today, stressing that the “efficacy can be determined 14 days after the second dose”.
The clarification came soon after Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, who was a volunteer in the third phase of vaccine trials in his state, said he has tested positive for COVID-19. “Safety is our primary criteria in vaccine development,” the pharma firm assured.

There’s no need to create panic and being negative and spreading that the vaccine failed.
To clear things out -
Firstly they have themselves expected earlier that the vaccine efficacy will be around atleast 50-60℅ (also it can’t be 100℅) (they are doing phase 3 now, efficacy can be more)
Secondly, what they said is, even if one gets infected, the person won’t gets serious.
This second point can be well understood like, the vaccine will atleast create some sought of immunity to fight the virus and save people from getting serious. This is being expected in the respected Health minister’s case too. So he should not get any major symptoms.

You must have heard about the news of Haryana minister Anil Vij developing COVID 19 despite getting vaccination and liberals laughing over it. Here’s some medical insights :
1. Vij is a part of double blind control trial in which half the volunteers receive vaccine and other half placebo. So there is a possibility that Vij was injected placebo and he himself wasn’t aware about it.
2. Vaccine is effective or not can only be decided after its full dose schedule is completed. Vij had got only one dose.
3. Even if Vij was given the vaccine (and not placebo) : Suppose I get vaccinated today, it’ll take few weeks (window period) for me to develop antibodies. I’m not immune to the disease during this window period and may develop the disease by natural infection. It doesn’t mean vaccine failure.
