If you click on SkipAd on the first video, it would skip the second ad as well. If you don’t, you will be forced to watch the non skippable ad.

Could be the ad blocker, Technically, I don’t think changing your DNS server has anything to do with ads played on the youtube app.

It plays two 5 sec ads, one after the other , with no option to skip on the first ad.

I am using the latest version of the YT app, maybe a feature on the new version.

Health tip: You should avoid those high value ads if you cannot afford. Particularly when the “home-minister” is also along, I try not to let any ads come on screen.

The ads on dth are low-cost and/or mostly household and they do not trigger much. But the ads on youtube are quite costly and will for sure trigger lot of unwanted discussions.

Forget those 10 sec then. I just disabled adblocker to see, and there is an ad for 2 min.

Ohh…and you are ok routing everything via your ISP DNS or Google DNS or CloudFlare DNS 😂

Thanks. Do you know if the YT video links that arrives through messaging apps, when opened directly opens on the Vanced app, or does it open the yt app?

We have multiple ways to block ads. ..DNS blocking is one of them as well.

Thank God that i watch from PC only, zero ads. But on those rare occasions I watch from mobile there are indeed a few ads which bother the F outta me. I won’t use Vanced or any unofficial app but is there any way to block ads system wide on a non-rooted Android (i mean not only for YouTube but for everything)? Someone told me about some DNS based app but i forgot its name.

If you are serious about it, get raspberry pi integrated with your router, get pi-hole installed and setup the dns with adblocks; do note that it’s a dns-sinkhole, it won’t be be routing your whole network traffic, but only the dns entries/calls (mostly adv. dns are resolved to localhost). It won’t even slow down your network, rather fasten up things which I guess you might already be aware of.
Another simple way which I have personally used is, use an old rooted phone with adaway, have hotspot route that network to your smart tvs, and kaboom, enjoy (you might have to always keep the phone plugged-in to charge, and also close to tv for better network reception and all).

Set YouTube Vanced as default.

DNS66/Blokada (F-droid repo)… but anything non-rooted will have a disadvantage; get root, get adaway;
btw, why the big no over YT Vanced on non-rooted device ? There used to be a xposed module something called yt-background-playback (later removed from repo, but still should be available for compilation) that I used to use, though this needs both root+xposed, but worked on official yt app.

ISP DNS:- can’t avoid, adding another layer is what I wanted to avoid. Also there is my office VPN, it may cry if I route the traffic through another layer of DNS, not sure how it will take it.

May be I will connect another intermediate router for TV alone and route it via adblocking DNS. My ideas at the moment are all messed up.

I will definitely consider this when I get time to work on it. Thank you for the insights.

Yes yes that DNS66 app, same was told to me earlier. You are saying that won’t work on a non-rooted phone? I can’t root at present because I’m using a floater sort of device just to pass these dire times, a cheap Moto phone which will be voided of warranty if rooted. I’ve used Adaway almost exclusively since its inception on all the phones I’ve owned.

Regarding my refusal to use any third party app, well due to my misfortune (and trust) I’m tied with legal matters. Therefore, every step I take since always keeping in mind the legal implications, should any occur in future. An unofficial third party app i can’t produce before a court of law- yes, there are legal matters on YouTube which i watch and comment in, so you see my reasoning.

It works perfectly fine on non-rooted device, give it a shot; in fact it’s not vpn based like those pesky adblock-plus apps which redirect all traffic; this only creates a internal vpn for dns host server filtering only; on the contrary adaway (or host based, rooted ones), don’t even need that since they modify the host files itself; AdAway>DNS66>>>VPN-based.
