HDFC Credit Card Application declined - Rant and Vent + A Lesson to learn

Last Year, I financed purchase of a TV costing over a Lakh from HDFC. I paid my last EMI in the month of September and from the very next day I started receiving calls from their Agents assuring pre-approved offer for MoneyBack+ Business CC. They lured me to apply for the Card in pretext of pre-approved Card offer with much higher limit. Agent said I will receive the card in matter of few days, and I only need to share my PAN and Adhaar details and there won't be any verification. Well, days turned into weeks, and I did not receive any further communication apart from initial Verification call. The website was showing status of Application as IN Process. HDFC twitter handle was also of not much help as they were only giving scripted replies and told me to wait for few more days. Two days back one of their Agent showed up at home address for verification. I asked him if he need Income documents for verification, but he said Address proof is sufficient. After a month today I received a text from HDFC saying application has been processed and had a link to check status in next 2 days. Link is of the website only to check the HDFC CC Application status and it now says DECLINE.
I have 100% payment record and have a cibil score over 750. Still, they have rejected my application. Only reason I can see is my Cibil report has mention of only SBI CC which is 4 months old. But I guess i will never know why they rejected my application.
Lesson learned never to trust Agents over a call.
😡😤

OP has learnt a lesson..never trust an agent 😉
Hdfc show Decline and then they process the card Atleast in My Case.
Wait for few more days
If it is a pre-approved card they'll send an email with card type and limit. As far as I know HDFC won't have dedicated sales manager like Axis there are only 3rd party agents they don't have access to your bank account to check whether it is actually pre-approved or not. Your agent fooled you into taking a card apply after 6 months directly from HDFC website to get LTF offers

If an agent has fooled him, does it mean all other agents will take him for a ride? I proposed to help, as we all are dimers and not only an agent. 😄

HDFC has guys in bank who call you if a pre-approved offer appears in your account. It happened with me and my friend. The guy from home branch called and informed us that we have a pre-approved offer. We checked and it was there. We had been checking for months before that.
Hdfc guys are shit.. Better to stay away.. Mine credit card closed 5 years back Still shows in my credit history and denting my credit scor.. Nothing done even after an year of following and escalations
my story , all the while i applied on HDFC official website for diner/other cards i get some long application number and the same get deleted after few days on callin customer care they say your appl. got declined and some useless internal decision , u must be earning this much crap
then some day , some agent call/whatsapp came , i given her doc. and all just in mood, as i thought that the same story will get repeated , but voila they issued me HDFC regalia .. after few month it was even made it Regalia LTF
credit card application is tricky process (coz i dont think RBI has made much rule on this part ), so just keep tryin again n again till they r bored and give u card.. stuff like CIBIL score , salary n all dont matter , u still b rejected citing 'internal policy ' and RBI wont help either
my current target IDFC has been rejectin my card application since like 1.5 yr. , i dont even need it as all the benefit are being offset by other card , but just for fun and coz its LTF i keep applyin once in a while , someday they wud b forced to give me tht
i hav been given this advice in this forum only and this is good
I am a 2yr old HDFC customer and owning ICICI FD card, i have done an fd or because of some reason, i was getting preapproved offer in netbanking and after 1-2month i applied for Business Moneyback and it get approved. No Call, NO vkyc nothing. Even No cibil enquiry.
After 8months, recently i requested for LTF millenia and at first they declined but after a professional mail stating the benefits and worthiness, aviling fd and business account, have a very little earning, they happily approved the card with LTF, no condition. So sometime if you appreciate the peoples, they can change the decision.
On the other hand, Axis these people never talk and just sent internal policy message.
I also got ICICI amazonpay with no VKYC or anything as i already have a saving a/c but cibil enquiry was done and it was rejected a year ago, maybe that time it can be approved but i was not aware how to deal with rejections.
romilq wrote:I was told the same thing by a friend of mine. Also, I only applied because 4 Agents called multiple times, and all said pre-approved offer to be for Moneyback+ Business CC only. I actually did ask them just to cross check if they could rather provide me Millenia or classic Moneyback Card but all denied saying I can only apply for Moneyback Business so I kinda got convinced. I also asked them to email me pre-approved offer details for authenticity, but they said that can,t be done.HDFC has guys in bank who call you if a pre-approved offer appears in your account. Not sure now if they just all lied 😔
Guys I asked HDFC twitter handle and they are saying - "Hi, we observe from our records that the application reference number 22J16225849660N1 due to failure in address verification. Incase you wish to apply again, we request you to visit our website and apply online for credit card or by clicking on the below link"
This is so wrong. HDFC Agent did show up at my address and I myself personally handed him Adhar Card for address verification.
today an icici agent called me and offered a preapproved loan of 10L @ 8%...I asked her to send the details over email. When I checked I found out that the rate of interest was 13%+ .....these days the agents are getting very deceptive 😡 they only think about their cut.
I've recently got approved by agent through. If it was from an agency, they'll get it reopened and get approved. That was my case, within 2 weeks, the status keeps changing to INPROCESS to DECLINE to INPROCESS. sometimes RECORDS NOT FOUND. If it is the case after 2 weeks, then you can confirm it's actual decline.

Email to [email protected] citing the problem and ask them to reconsider your application,u will probably get a call from ur nearby hdfc branch and they will reprocess it

Guys today some guy showed up for Address Verification. I thought since Application was DECLINED I told him same thing and sent him back. Then I checked application status, it changed back from DECLINE to IN PROCESS. WTF is happening. Why HDFC processing application in such a weird way. Now m afraid it will be decline again. Any help possible?

No in my case they didn't checked my cibil again, instead they took my income certificate (ITR in my case)

Why would a closed credit card affect cibil for 5 years, there would only be a one time drop which should rebound in a quarter. Unless you were reported as a defaulter on a closed card, can't affect you more than once

It does.. They reported no transactions during these years and card was showing active (even though it expired in 2016)which resulted in bad credit utilization.. So overall score went down..
Had no idea of credit score during those days.. When I checked my credit score this year, found the credit card still active.. And then from April to November first week, with all possible escalations where ever possible, they didn't close the card.. Finally had to raise a case in RBI ombudsman, after which they had agreed to close the card in 21 days... Still waiting for final confirmation or will check after 21 days

C2C method would have worked when applying through agents. I guess this was a new one on the job or just dumb.
Mine was a C2C application submitted through the branch - barely 2% limit utilization on an FK Axis with 2 L+ limit plus I am salaried too. Post the first verification call, I got an approved in principle SMS but after the second verification call, I see a "DECLINE" status on the web.

My FK Axis card would be over a year old, at least. My credit score was 758 - saw a 30-point drop this month as my utilization went up from 1% to 2% @xera0117

If you don't get any help from their grievance redressal team I suggest you apply through a third party agent after a month.
Again I am pretty sure when something doesn't add up, you are hiding something, there must be unpaid dues or something sketchy on your part for which the card is not closed.
Otherwise as per RBI bank needs to pay 500 per day post 7 days of card closure request
