Hdfc customer support block my platinum debit card w/o my consent

My old card was non chip card. I was not getting charged 500 RS annual fee for that till now.

They have sent me the timespoints debit card saying we have upgraded it that too without my consent.and 1% cashback is missing from this card. Even they told me that this card had fee of 850 RS .
I shouted them saying you block my old non chip card but should have replaced with Same card.
Even they are saying I can visit the branch to apply same card but fee is there now 500 RS.
This is bullshit.
I told them to rollback everything.
Non chip card is not a concern. Concern is new card, high fee,fee
Should I complaint to RBI ?

non chip cards are no longer valid , every bank is bound to replace it with chip based card .

But should replace with same old card unless it’s stopped by bank. You can’t send another card with higher fee without customer consent

Replacing with chip card is fine.

But lack of transparency, consent or even informing customer.. a mkt leader like hdfc can manage / afford it and still survive with complaining not helping much (legally), but its certainly is not good or customer friendly practice. They lose goodwill. But it matters for them is a moot point.

Sad.
We have to live with this, and other such things.
If one has time and motivation, one must complaint. It may just make a difference. At least, once can take solace that one did his part of the job.

I think previously they were not charging you 500 rs due to some system error or card fee waive off offer or something like that .

Guess free lunch period is now over , with new card you will need to pay applicable fees .

Off course you can ask / force them to downgrade you to previous card variant and pay the current applicable fees .

Yes that’s the issue. Earlier I was enjoying the fee waiver which will not the case now.
Very sad. I told them I am complaining to RBI.

visit branch and meet the RM / BM give them letter in writing to reverse these high charges

or complaint on twitter / email support

if incase the charges are reversed then apply for simple rupay card or even less charges card

Agree bro. Even after complaining to RBI , doesn’t think any thing will happen. Based on past experience as they take months to resolve matter ultimately our loss of time and money.
They are the market leader and should respect customer and ask for consent. At The end we have to pay only.

It cost exceeds benefit, do not pursue it. right now.

But keep at back of mind… sometime in life, you may get opportunity to make a difference somewhere in some forum, use this background to make good use of that opportunity at time.

Basically, the idea is to make them listen. To the customer. And consider improving things where they are in bad shape. E.g. These days giving 1 or 2 start rating, writing a feedback remark or word-of-mouth recommendation for-or-against can also make a difference and is valued by co.s…

That’s why I have blocked the shitty times prime card & using only UPI & net banking of HDFC. I am also thinking to close HDFC account I rarely use it. I have started using credit cards so no use of debit cards, only cash withdrawal. Somebody confine will I be charged for debit card if card is blocked by account holder?

HDFC is like sarkari bank you can’t have option to upgrade/downgrade debit cards through online. Only it allows reissue of the same card. HDFC is a totally shitty bank in terms of online banking.

how much limit you were utilizing ? and what was the usage frequency ? if you use your card once every quarter with 70% to 80% utilization in a year, bank will listen to you threaten them to close the card (do it if you have other bank cards)

If not the case then nothing can be done as you are not using card properly and they are not getting profit on it… (remember Debit card is chargeable not credit, as bank want them to be used)

Feedback does matter, complain to RBI, HDFC will surely come back to you with some good choice.
Anyways do not be harsh on HDFC as it gives many offers round the year and dependable Indian Bank.
