Point redemption Limited to 70% of booking value

For flight, hotels & travel experiences, HDFC Bank Diners Black Credit Card members can redeem up to maximum of 70% of booking value through Reward Points. Rest will have to be paid via Credit Card where you earn 10 times Reward Points.

This will be effective from 25 JULY 2020

Convinience Fees made dynamic
For flight bookings, convenience fee to be paid will now be dynamic, depending upon the number of passenger tickets, domestic or international sector and single/two-way journey.

This will be effective from 25 JULY 2020

DCB card is still good and better than other cards in market if one can meet 5L spend criteria. Yearly fees will be waived off and we can get some additional value with monthly and yearly milestone apart from regular points.

HDFC has reduced value of rewards for redemption other than SmartBuy travel to great extent.

If you exclude travel booking, you see reward rate is now mediocre for DCB and Infinia, and terrible for all others.

For travel bookings, you now have to pay higher convenience fess and you also miss discounts offered by travel booking websites.

While DCB and Infinia are still good cards, all other HDFC cards now have better alternatives available.

What’s the use then, we already pay extra while using the smartbuy. Looks like last year using this card for me now. Better to use some other card which gives 2-3% return in cash.

Have around 40k points currently and don’t have any plan to travel in future, how to utilize these in best way possible?

Did not understand your point regarding paying extra while using SmartBuy.. are u referring to amazon purchase that you need to pay extra or while doing flight tickets and hotel booking ?

I mean we can’t apply any kind of coupon which is generally available with other sites.

Also have found their hotel booking prices to be quite higher than other booking portals even without applying coupons or other deals.

All portals pass usual discounts even without coupons
Say hotel price per day is 5000 in HDFC Smartbuy, Goibibo or MMT will show 4000 to start with
Smartbuy has Cleartrip as backend partner for Hotels & their reach is quiet low
They don’t have many properties which other portals would have

Even flight prices were higher if you compare it using ixigo which provides the minimum b/w a lot of providers. That’s why I never considered the point value to 1 rs, its around 0.75.

On another topic, I haven’t gotten the points for the transactions done in jan/feb/march. Anyone else got those?

It’s high time Hdfc should give some other options like vouchers with better value. I have been now redeeming some points for amazon vouchers as I don’t think, I would be using much points for travel this year. Taking a 50 percent hit on points. I also feel that a devaluation may come on this front as well.

I maybe able to manage this month. Although last couple of months offers topped at 52000.
This month’s offer came quite higher.
Have some friends who have got Same offer on spend of 40000.
Guess it’s tailor made as per your spend.

I expect points to be credited after 90 days for Amazon and smartBuy but have received points in my latest statement more than I was expecting by this month … So, I am assuming that I have received all points because there 8s no way to cross-check

No there is big goof up done by credit card department of hdfc and credited more points and now they are reversing it by sending apology mail and sms. So better not utilise those extra points.

Its your mistake.
Between points are valid for 3 years, not 1 year. and you can easily book tickets for other @ 20% discount toungueout

Booking flight tickets for others can be a  complex affair if a cancellations is required later on. I read about it in a thread where there was a dispute between 2 people because one was claiming that refund should have been received and other person said that it is not reflecting in his account.

Because of this complexity, many people including myself, would prefer the boring voucher or statement credit over the excitement of getting more value of point in case we are unable to use the points for flight tickets for ourselves.

I have also started getting promotional emails only for the last 6 months. Thought must be same for everyone. Also never got any promo via SMS. Although I do get the notification for redemption on SMS.

Yes I have some points that are expiring this year.
Also,  I do not like to book tickets for others for the reason mentioned.

I clear all points regarding cancellation before booking.
And this cancellation issue happens due to covid.
Anyway, good to have voucher if points are expiring.
Still 1 points = 0.5 paisa right ?

This whole reward point system is flawed.. You never know for which transaction you have got the points and for which you haven’t.

Cancelation is another headache, recently had a flight in which spicejet cancelled and returned the money.. Still trying to track that in yatra and smartbuy.

I believe 50p per point is the redemption value for voucher but have not tried to redeem my points yet. Got my card in November only.

Reward point system is not flawed but non-transparent. Hdfc runs many promotions that we may not even be aware of and will provide rewards (vouchers) when the milestone is met

I have received points as per my calculations (+-5%) but would wish that system is more transparent.

Missing
