HDFC Infinia

One of my close friends has a pre approved Infinia and DCB card through his net banking. Once he gets the card, I’m hoping to get myself an add on for the same.

I was checking the reward points on both the cards and noticed that for normal spends both give 3.33% rewards which are valued (as cash) at 1RP = Re. 0.3 that means for every Rs. 100 spent I get a reward value of just Re. 1.

So only 10x through SmartBuy is the catch for these 2 cards. Or am I missing something? Gift vouchers like Amazon, FK will give 10x rewards that converts to 10% discount but is limited to 5k worth of vouchers per month. That means a max discount of 500 per month. Why is Infinia valued so highly?

Also I’ve the following queries, if you guys can help:

1. Can only family members get add ons? Or can it be for friends too?
2. Is DCB the better option than Infinia?
3. Unless we can use reward points on travel spends, aren’t other cards like Indusind pinnacle and SBI Elite better for normal spends than Infinia?

Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

HDFC add on card is useful only for POS txns, e-com txn OTP still goes to primary card holder and points are clubbed to primary card only.
DCB vs Infinia = depends on your requirement, if u often travel outside India u need Infinia, mainly shopping online both work equal.
NPS purchases only Infinia works. Unlimited lounge access even for add on members is special gift.
Travel redemption 1RP=1Rs, if u or your family/friends do not travel much then these cards do not suit u.
HDFC add-ons have same number as primary card
BTW how did ur friend get both cards offer in NB. Any tips?

1. HDFC Add on can only be requested for immediate relatives of the primary card holder. It does not get issued to friends.
2. Infinia any day – higher limit of Smartbuy RP’s. Visa Infinite – acceptance in and outside India.
3. Yes, good only if you travel.

He has a 17 year relationship with HDFC and has been a “Preferred” customer for a while now. Several FDs RDs etc. Lucky guy.

What are NPS purchases? Couldn’t follow that bit. I thought only the Priority Pass cards have the same number for add on and primary. If the OTP goes to the primary holder that’s going to be a pain.

Oh! I may have to get a add on a family member’s name then. I’ll check further on that.

I saw a YouTube video quoting that Infinia travel redemption can only be done through Singapore Airlines. Any idea if that’s true? But the video said DCB has tie ups with several airlines.

He is also seeing an option of getting that converted to LTF by registering a Smartpay on his card. Not sure how much that can be trusted though.

That’s only for points transfer for miles to airlines. I use the Smartbuy portal for booking flights – any airline on domestic routes.

There is some LTF offer going on but not sure on the details.

Even then the conversion is 1RP=1RE?

1) Add on can be issued to anyone provided add on person, has an exisitng HDFC customer id, if there is no reletaionship with HDFC of the person for whom you want to take add on, then only blood relatives are allowed through manual form and kyc proofs

2) Infinia is better as you have an higher smartbuy limit for 10x/5x spends, rest all features are same

3) Yes,cards which give 2% direct CB are much better in terms of cash rewards, however if you or some one in your family travels even once a year, then there is no comparasion
with them

It gets issued to friends and distant relatives, provided they have a pre exiting account
