HDFC Salary Account Variants and Salary Criterion

Axis has 3 types of salary accounts – Prime, Priority and Burgandy with salary requirements of 25K, 1L and 3L per month respectively and don’t have any minimum balance requirements for them.

I think HDFC also has similar 3 variants – Classic, Preferred and Imperia. But I don’t see anywhere the salary requirements for them. There is only mention of AQB criterion. So, do hdfc don’t have zero balance classic/preferred/imperia accounts?

Can somebody please clarify?

All 3 hdfc premium variants are zero balance accounts if opened with high initial deposit(speak to branch RM). Or if you open a salary account(zero balance) with them then they will offer you an upgrade to classic or higher variant based on your transactions. Waiting period will be atleast 3-4 months. Might take a year.

So, it doesn’t depend on salary credit? Just the transactions? That seems vague or subjective.

Edit: While opening, the hdfc representative said all accounts are preferred. But currently I see it’s just standard. So, maybe they will change it later.

Yes, it depends on the branch and RM there. RM can upgrade or downgrade anyone if they wish to(as long as they do not maintain required balance). I see many who do not maintain 1L at all and still having classic account for years and some got downgraded to regular account in 3 months of non-maintenance. So, it’s totally upto the RM.

Initially your account will be regular variant(standard) and a request will be raised to include you to the preferred(or classic or imperia) banking program which takes around 10-15 days to take effect.
