If you paid through app, I assume it was your card. If the other card is from same bank, then you can call the customer care and ask them to transfer the credit to correct card

If the other card is yours then i don’t think it’s worth the efforts. If it is not yours then you can try with cred. It will be a tedious process and cred will say no most probably.

Whether the card is yours or your friend’s, I don’t think cred has any control over getting it back.
In my opinion, if the card has any outstanding balance/due to be paid, you don’t really have any say in asking for refund. But if the payment is indeed excess, you can try requesting the bank and ask for refund stating excess payment. Usually a few banks process the refund via NEFT after confirming your bank account details or reverse the payment to original mode (in which case it will be back in your account via cred). Some banks has policy to send cheque/DD to the address on records.

Keep the post updated with the outcome, the information may be useful for others

Post all your expenses of August on this card and that’s all. There’s nothing more that you can do.

If it’s your own card, then don’t bother. The bank will not return the money.

If it’s your card only, the payment will automatically reflect to new card. In hdfc replacement /upgrade cards are linked to same account. This has happened to me when I mistakely paid to my old credit card and the credit amount reflected in new credit card.

You are misleading the query again.

From your post, it looks like you mixed two card numbers and paid to a different card altogether?

Please be little clear in the query. If possible, post us with an example (some random numbers) to make us understand what exactly you did)

I dont think cred has become that connected to hdfc database to read card numbers before even the card is delivered to customer’s place

no need to worry, there is either of cases, one payment get failed and u get refund or it will be added to the card. This is similar to a bank account transfer, if the account is closed u get the money back, else it will be added to the account

No, it fetches details somehow. Maybe from credit reports? Whenever i have had a new card it would automatically show last 4 numbers (and first 4 maybe too) in the app and asks to confirm card number. Maybe the OP entered the old card digits for the blank spaces and made the payment. If that’s how it is then the payment would be automatically refunded in my opinion but should contact cred once too.

Well cred does read the information from SMS. If one receives an SMS saying the upgrade/replacement card ending with ABCD is sent to your registered address etc, cred will read that sms and show you the list.

In my case cred is solely for making payments whenever I want to, earlier I even restricted SMS permissions(email is out of scope). But recently I had to enable and since then, it reads the balance due which credit card folks send after a statement is generated.

And coming to OPs case, if it does so and he fills it with old card numbers, to start with it is invalid number. Cred should atleast verify the card number pattern and say to enter valid numbers. If not, he should wait for a refund from cred or better contact cred support proactively.

In this case you dont need to worry, just a call to hdfc will fix your problem
tell them you paid your old card number and transfer amount to new card

Did u rcv any SMS? from CRED or HDFC.
Also give more details what CRED was showing for new card, just last 4 digits?

Dont worry payment gets reflected in your credit card account. when ever credit card issued there is an account number like mapped with the credit card and the same account number will be used for All features card replacement and all.so if you paid to blocked card then it will automatically gets credit to that card.

Same thing was happened with me for hdfc, rbl, sbi and amex cc

Thats not how card numbers work. Mixing the way I mentioned may not even yield a valid card number. The numbers get validated based on certain algorithms and tell the user if the number is valid or not. So I’m not sure how did it go through in the first place.

And the OP is least bothered about keeping the information clear.

So I guess payment must have gone to some other card? Yes OP is not clear about it.

Sry for delayed response. Same happened with me few months ago… I sent a mail to HDFC Grievances and they have adjusted the amount as well as reward points in my new card

No… In my new card , 12 digits are same.

My old card : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
New Card : XXXX XXXX YYYY XXXX

They can be same/not same. But one should never mix the numbers, rather wait for the card to arrive and proceed. Eventually all these numbers(pattern) will be validated against an algorithm and say whether the number is valid or not.

Also you can pay to an old card, and the payment will be routed automatically to the new card. This can be done atleast for the starting month in case there is any delay in getting the new card in hand.

Thank you all for kind responses. Money went to different card which is not mine. And I visited nearest HDFC bank and third party letter for credit card disputes. They said they will raise CRM and send to chennai. They will investigate and will contact us back on the resolution

I will post any further info is there.

Sorry to hear that.

So is our understanding correct that you mixed first 12 digits from old and last 4 digits from new card? In my opinion, these kind of pattern form a valid card number is little rare and the luck(sarcasm) favored you.

In any case please update the original post with what more details and the result after. It will help fellow dimers take the lesson.
