I had counter waiting ticket for intercity train. It is lost. I have PNR number and irctc sms with me. Can I travel with it. If not then do I have any other option to board the train with minimum expenditure?
Thanks

If SMS has passenger name and seat no.
Then, you can travel.

Ek koi puraani ticket ho toh usko acche se geela kar lo. Fir usko dikha dena. Bol dena sar Pant dhul gayi washing machine mein. Galti se ticket usi mein rakhi reh gayi, subah hi dekha. 😢

If ticket is bought offline from ticket counter it's mandatory to carry original ticket, message or even photo of ticket won't work.

Ye sahi idea hai, station par hi kisi ke paas already travelled ticket mil jayegi. Usse lekar jugaad kar sakte ho. Nahi toh Risk hai toh Ishq hai soch ke, travel karlo. @cpxfer

Aajkal TTE log pareshaan karte nahin hein. Aadharcard pe naam dekh ke tick lagaa lete hein aur aage badh jaate hein

Before boarding the train, go to TTE and share your predicament with him. He might take some money and mark you present when he sees you on your seat. Not much of a hassle I think, and nothing wrong in it as well.
cpxfer wrote:You can get the general ticket and ask TTE to convert if any vacant seat is available. He will take the difference amount of the general ticket and reserved ticket.Actually I need to travel with the same train... ISSUE OF DUPLICATE TICKET FROM THE STATION
(i) If the reservation status of the lost, misplaced, torn or mutilated ticket is reserved or RAC and duplicate ticket is sought before preparation of reservation chart, the station master shall issue a duplicate ticket in lieu of the original ticket on collection of the clerkage charge per passenger.
(ii) If duplicate ticket in lieu of a lost or misplaced reserved ticket is sought after preparation of reservation chart, it shall be issued on collection of 50% of total fare. Duplicate tickets shall not be issued for RAC tickets after preparation of reservation chart.
(iii) If duplicate ticket in lieu of a torn or mutilated reserved or RAC ticket is sought after preparation of reservation chart, it shall be issued on collection of 25% of the total fare.
(2) (i) No refund shall be granted in respect of charges collected for issuing duplicate tickets except where the lost or misplaced ticket is traced after the issuance of a duplicate ticket and presented alongwith the duplicate ticket before departure of the train. The charges collected for issuing duplicate ticket shall be refunded after deducting five per cent thereof subject to a minimum deduction of rupees twenty. In case the journey is also not undertaken, the cancellation charges on the original ticket shall be determined as provided under Refund rules.
(ii) The passenger, who has paid excess charges in train on account of his reserved ticket or RAC ticket being lost, misplaced, torn or mutilated, can make an application to Chief Commercial Manager (Refunds) of that Railway administration for grant of refund of the charges paid in train, who may, if decided, grant refund of the charges realised in the train after retaining the cancellation charges at 50% of fare per passenger provided that no one has taken refund earlier on the original ticket.

@tappukepapa @cpxfer
Fill an application and submit it in reservation counter
They will give you issue a duplicate ticket
If you do not carry original ticket and TTE comes and ask to show you your ticket, then he will definitely fine you
No one check physical ticket nowadays.Just tell the TTE your name and provide the I'd proof

In this Scenario, He/She is not holding a confirmed or RAC ticket. and already from the above posts the chance of getting confirm is also not possible.
So best bet to travel in the train is to travel with Counter WL ticket. (If friend and relatives travel in the same train he can be with them).
Only for Confirmed or RAC tickets, the names will be in the Chart list and when TTE checking, if he dont have physical counter WL ticket, it will be considerd as Ticketless travelling.
Best solution is visit nearest booking counter and get Duplicate ticket..

I recently travelled using physical ticket in 3AC. The TTE did not accept SMS and wanted physical ticket because as per SOPs ticket needs to be scratched.
