It takes time to process, especially when there’s a refund involved (doesn’t matter if it’s 200 only). Sit back and relax, no need to take tension, sometimes it gets processed in just few days, but majority time it takes around 1-2 months.

My brother works in an IT company where he received some salary for 6 months and also he has Rs10k income as Chegg as a question expert (not as a full time employee) which he has mentioned in IT form.
- His total taxable income is below Rs5 lakh.
Now the problem is, that he has e-verified the IT return on 14 September but it is not yet processed by the IT department. Webpage just shows successfully e-verified on 14 September. Acnowledgement also mentions the same.
I have my friends whose IT return was processed in just 14 days and even 5 days for one. Though they don’t have both Chegg and IT salary combination. They simply had interest and Chegg.
Although his refund would be just Rs200 but the main thing is that why is IT department taking so long to process the return? Is anybody facing smilar issue? What could be next course of action? What is the deadline?

My return took 2.5 months to process vs my wife 15 days..
Don’t worry..it will be processed, in case something is wrong /mismatch email/SMS will come
No course of action to be taken. Sometimes it even takes upto 6 months for return to be processed. Since you have already filed it and the amount involved is very minor, you need not follow up. They will process it in their time. Forget about it, just keep checking mails.
As per my friends from development side, now ITR 1 takes hardly 72-96 hrs to proceed. In case of other ITR it may takes longer.

It is ITR -3 for my brother which is late, ITR-4 for my friends was very quick.
It can take several months and sometimes more than a year for IT Deptt to process your return. 1st priority are those IT Returns which have taxable income and any refund amount, next is those having taxable income without refund and lastly those where income is within non taxable limits.
Delay in processing is sometimes due to mismatch or delay in uploading TDS data by deductors, or auto capture of information related to concealment of taxable income from other sources such as bank accounts.
Quite amused by your expectations from a sarakari deptt

Can you please elaborate “auto capture of information related to concealment of taxable income from other sources such as bank accounts”?

Every yr i file two returns, both taxable but one with refund and other without refund.
Without refund is always processed within a month (even though taxable income is more than other return ). The refund usually comes in three months (except for two yrs 18-19 when it was processed in april)

Mine is not yet in processing stage even after 2 months.

IT Deptt has deployed advanced softwares to match the figures filled in the Return by the Assessee, with related information available from other sources where PAN number is submitted such as savings bank account, credit card accounts, property transactions, foreign travel, cash transactions etc.
These softwares flag IT Returns where there is a mismatch as per their programmed logic. Such returns are scrutinized in more detail and notices sent for clarification, if reqd.

You mean to say tension stops only after death?
From my experience, if you have income other than salary takes more time to process than the other. For me, 2018 year returns are processed along with 2019 year returns. So not to worry if there are no tax dues.
My friends ITR was processed within 1 minute
Even i was shocked, but yes IT department is super fast in some cases while for some very slow
same boat here .. filed on sept still not processed.
Before infosys my ITR filings always got processed within 15 days. Prime example of don’t fix it it’s aint’s broken …
Let’s see how long it takes.
