nobody around me own 5g even though 5g is in town, I keep my phone on 4g mode as it is not much of use and phone heats a lot on 5g. Right now its only for flex and there is no real use :/ you can consider 2-3 years when people really feel like 5g is making a difference or telecom is forcing them.

If you are buying smartphone in 2023 you should buy 5G phone, even if you use 4G only, sooner or later you need to buy 5G device so pay extra 1k 2k now for 'future' technology

May I ask you why one should buy 5G phone?

'sooner or later you need to buy 5G device' - again why?

5G isn't the revolutionary technology that we were promised. If people still think 5G is going to come in a few months are we are all going to get speeds in GBPS, I've got some bad news for you all.

For at least a few years, 4G will be as fast as if not faster than 5G. Because 5G is just starting out whereas 4G is more mature. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that you absolutely need a 5G phone. Maybe in a few years once 5G becomes more widely available, when the technology matures a bit more, then it will be better.

3g to 4g was a way bigger jump than 4g to 5g. If you ask me it's just a way to make people spend more. The main use case of 5g is not for consumer use, it's for industries, self driving cars, remote access etc.

Companies are just making a fool out of people by making 5g sound like something unmissable and something you need to pay extra for.

This video goes deeper into why 5g sucks -

2 to 3years. 4g itself offers pretty good speed. Until you really need very high speeds 5g doesn't make too much difference. 5G network handle traffic better and more network coverage.
Since 5G mobile are affordable it's better to buy 5G supporting mobile itself.

First there has to be 100% 5G coverage by all telco

4G will stay for long time. Unlike 3G, 4G cant be replaced easily by 5G as it needs more towers and will be expensive. Unless Telcos bring down plans for 5g to something like 300-400/month with atleast 10gb data per day, its of no use.

I don't think with 5g it's possible to cover whole India so 4g is here to stay, companies claimed 2g will be out in 2020 when jio 4g came telcos goes bust and here we still recharging ₹99 in basic 2g phones

Edit : in foreign also they can't cover everywhere with 5g even after 2yrs and 'mrwhosetheboss' said "5g is a marketing gimmick created by companies to sell newer phones"

dont believe mrwhosetheboss blindly. I am working in network space and I know for fact that 5G brings a lot of amazing capabilities. Just speed of network isnt everything. The way older networks work is very cumbersome. 5G simplifies things a lot for network operators and reduced equipment requirements. Implementation of that is a separate issue which is dependent on skilled staff like field engineers and software devs.. which again is challenging as in any business.. there are a lot of other things which work in the background and we will take those for granted when 5g is widely available.

pretty much not in next 10 years, real 5g will have very bad signal so 4g will continue to work for a long long time

4G is like the 2G from 2000's its gonna stay for 10+ years while 2G is the one thats goign to be phased out instead

2G cant be completely phased out even now as its needed for phone calls/sms in remote areas and internationally in few countries its still being used as fallback when 3G/4G/5G isnt available. 3G has been phased out mostly from all big cities. Similarly 4G will be phased out slowly by 5G.

I Am Using a 4g Phone From 2 Years, Will It Use It Another 5 Years or More Easily...

I don't think 4G service is going to phase anytime soon, Infact not even in 4/5 years because 5G antennas have shorter wave length & means 5G towers need  to be installed in a large number to create 5G infrastructure in a city.  So don't worry if even if you have purchased 4G phone at least you will continue reviving 4G networks in next 4/5 years or even longer.

I use wifi most of the time at home and office so for me 5g doesn't matter at all.

Bought new Samsung F04 few days back from Samsung website which supports 4g only.

atleast 2-3 years minimum because 4g is not going away anywhere till few years

atleast what i read from google is there are several places in India where even 4g is still not yet launched and several rural parts doesnt even have 2g connectivity . so till 2030  we can expect its not  going away and so will be phones

4G is base for 5G so never ever 4G will vanish

I still have 2g sim and a 2g nokia phone, which is a life saving hero during heavy natural disasters like floods, massive thunderstorms, cyclones, cloudburst. Personally experience this for years.. when electricity power supply is cut off 3/4g is affected badly and quickly become out of coverage but with 2g one can still be connected and be able to get help.

In short, 4g will also live longer and will remain for 5-6 years.

Well it would have happened a lot faster if 4G wasn't "good enough" to do the task, 5G wasn't expensive (like all new technologies are) and if there wasn't this thing called affordable unlimited fixed broadband. 🙂
