How Scammers Use Olx/Quickr For UPI Fraud (Real Personal Incident)

This happened to me today. I live in Ghaziabad, UP. A guy named Sumit Sehgal contacted me via my phone number on Quickr regarding my ad selling Sofa. He said he is in furniture business nearby and is interested in buying it today. I asked if he wanted to see the sofa first but he said that he is very experienced and can understand the quality from photos only. He said that he can do part payment via PayTM UPI as token and will send his men later to get the sofa. He asked for my PayTM number and then after few minutes, said he has paid me. I received no notification from bank regarding amount credit but I did get a message on PayTM chat that I have received payment.

When I asked him about this, he said that he has a special merchant account and to get the payment, I need to click on Pay button below and put UPI Pin. I caught his lies as I knew about this fraud (this way, amount was gonna get debited from my account) and confronted him on call but he cancelled the call immediately. I have already reported his number as fraud and have put a cybercrime online complaint against him – Not sure how much beneficial it would be though. I am sharing his details here so that he cannot try to scam anyone here.

Always remember – If you are clicking on Pay or if you have to type in OTP/Pin/Password, it is most probable that you are paying, not receiving amount!
