Hyperlipidemia can be genetic or poor lifestyle factors which include diet, stress, physical inactivity, and smoking & alcohol intake.
Follow these
1. Stress management - take out time to do things that you love to do & the ones that make you happy
2. Good proper sleep - meditation, yoga, etc.
3. Regular exercises including at least 30 mins walk per day or brisk walk and strength training
4. Limit total added sugar (max 24 gm per day for females & 36 gm/day for males), added salt (max 5 gm/day), saturated fats (below 10% of total calories).
More about sugar - https://www.desidime.com/discussions/added-...rs
5. Avoid refined carbohydrates, trans fats, packed & processed foods, red meats, alcohol.
6. Include whole grains, variety of fruits & vegetables, nuts, seeds, flaxseeds.
7. Adequate water intake.
8. Stop smoking if you do.
9. Get regular follow-ups with your doctors
10. Never ignore any symptoms
11. Do not try to replace foods with supplements - they are meant for additional requirements only when necessary/deficient.

Along with this add psyllium husk in your diet twice a day. It has to be taken immediately after lunch and dinner. It makes a lot of difference.
I found best safe treatment with Himalaya Abana. Give it a try and test after 3 months.
Say thanks then. Good luck.
Use Himalaya Abana tablet after lunch and dinner with warm water.

Completely agree.
My story: Used herbalife products for weight gain. They worked but spoiled by lipid and I got hypertension that got noticed after few years.
And now i am on hypertension medication from last 5 years. Thats ok.
my LDL touched around 5 with high triglycerides. Used himalaya abana as a BP medicine but what I found it it is best to bring ur lipid profile normal.
try it

Omega 3 can be given but it needs to be in very high dose (4gm/day) for any good effect on lipids & better to start after consult.
The levels are not too high but based on age, BP and several other factors, he likely needs to be started on medicines......but again proper consultation required for that.

Psyllium husk can help lower cholesterol, sugar and blood pressure by itself. There are few studies though demonstrating it. Don’t add it with blood pressure medicine though. As it can make blood pressure more low. Consult a dietitian and get a diet made for hypercholesterolemia. And keep regular follow ups with your physician with blood tests and other checkups.
Here is what my doc told to do
Abana (as everyone already told)
Arjuna tablet /or powder also available (not for people with low bp)
Triphala after food
Omega 3 (started with daily now take twice a week)
Limcee 500 mg daily once (started with 3 in a day, gradually came to 1)
Niacin 500mg twice a week with folmet
A beta blocker (dont take without doc)
Drink lots of water
10 minutes slow walk after food
Garlic, tomato, apples and peanuts
Reduce sugar and salt
Cycling or climibing stairs qucikly or brisk walking (earlier i use to go to office on cycle but now I walk for 15-20 minutes every evening)
Stop tea but i drink with double toned amul and sugar free with black pepper
Other than that i use canola or sesame oil, stopped refined oil since covid came and use only cold pressed be it any oil.
Good sleep and no tension (only reason of my high levels and i am unable to control both due to job).
NEVER take any medicine without consultation with a doctor. Even if you want to go for Ayurveda, don't just go & buy on such recommendations.....consult a good Ayurvedic practitioner
This system of people recommending & others buying & taking ayurvedic medicines is very very bad. Same for any medicine.
No particular fruit or vegetable will bring down your levels...it has to a variety of seasonal fruits & vegetables.
Niacin should not be taken or even recommended like this. It can have serious side effects.
Climbing stairs quickly is again a bad advice - huge risk of falling & injury & no extra benefit. Do normal walk or brisk walk....can add some normal stair climbing.
No need to stop tea....just don't add too much of sugar. No benefit of using sugar free unless you are diabetic.
Use a variety of oil...good way is to keep changing your cooking oil every 2-3 months so u get variety of nutrients.
Good sleep and no tension are actually very important.

People believe that Ayurvedic medicines are all natural and all beneficial with no side effects , even eating tulsi leaves has many side effects .
Whats your take on Homeopathy ?
Hood Ayurvedic practitioners are hard to find .. most of them are quacks .

You will have to follow proper routine too i suppose as @batguy143 mentioned.

Yes Ayurvedic medicines have many side effects, much harm to liver & kidneys. They have lots of heavy metals...same for tulsi leaves.
In my opinion & experience, Homeopathy doesn't work, in fact that also has side effects.
I've had many patients who were taking homeopathy or ayurveda medicines, having deranged liver tests, high CRP, etc.......I just stopped all those, nothing else and they became normal!
Yes, very difficult to find a genuine practitioner

whatever medicine/ pathy one follows, healthy lifestyle is essential
talking abt lipid levels, statins are not required for everyone, but when required they should be taken.
They don't just bring down levels but also have cardio-protective role
saymyname78 wrote:Every fruit, vegetable, plant/herb etc & anything made from them has side effects depending on quantity & situation. Below is an old news but still relevant even today.

I know a person who got dengue and started to drink papaya leaf juice every day( even after he was tested negative for dengue)One day he got severe ulcers in stomach (peptic ulcer)

They can sell anything, claim anything and do anything, in the name of ancient culture, and now nationalism & all.
The practitioners from other pathies claim there's to be superior but are fighting since so many years for legalising them to prescribe allopathy medicines, and politicians are supporting them just to get more votes.
When they themselves get sick, they rush to AIIMS & Medanta or abroad!
Still again saying, if anyone has belief in Ayurveda, follow the proper system, find a good practitioner & take treatment only after proper consult.
Every medicine has some possible side effects!
I suggest you to take proper action after verifying the report with other lab as well. Idk about 1mg but pharmeasy gave me a headache after results but the other two labs gave normal result.

Yes Colchicine, digoxin, atropine can be harmful but few drugs which are obtained from plant are only cure for cancer and many diseases.
Actually as per my understanding these plants are not directly given to patients for curing diseases but are their active potential ingredients are extracted, tested in various trials then only medicines are sold in market
Eg vinblastin and vincystine are although extracted from catharanthus (sadabahar plant) but have been clinically proven to effect and stop tumor activity but what people do is that they just eat leaves of catharanthus and think that it will help them to stay away from cancer
I strongly believe that plants active ingredients can be cure for certain diseases but should only be used after lots of clinical trials and research as we have lost our real true knowledge of ayurveda and most of today's so called ayurvedic doctors are only fraud
Foodie wrote:That again is another story!I know a person who got dengue and started to drink papaya leaf juice every day( even after he was tested negative for dengue)One day he got severe ulcers in stomach (peptic ulcer)
Dengue is a self limiting condition for most patients....just have to keep good liquid intake & symptomatic treatment...nothing else required/ works.
I've had dengue twice...just took ORS & paracetamol, with platelet monitoring.
If it gets severe form, nothing except proper timely medical treatment can save a person.
batguy143 wrote:That's where quacks cash in, jaundice, paralysis and the likes, where the damage is self limiting and recovery is likely the only course after the initial threat.

The modern medicines are prepared after rigorous research & testing, acceptable dose, toxic dose, side effects, etc. are all known & updated based on newer information & trials.
Traditional medicines don't have all that.
I daily talk to so many cancer patients & survivors and there's not even a single patient who got cured of cancer with just alternate treatment. There are people who took modern medical treatment, then later took some alternates also and now claim to have got cured with alternate therapies, just for fame & money!

Stopped eating eggs on the presumption that egg yellow contains Cholestrol for several years, but no change in HDL or LDL levels. Now resumed original eating habits with eggs, no change now either. Shifted to Olive oil instead of Ghee and refined vegetable oils, had Oats regularly in breakfast for ten years. Discovered that none of these can create any noticeable change in Cholesterol levels.
Latest medical studies have ruled out any relation between serum Cholesterol and dietary Cholestrol. Serum Cholesterol (blood level) is dependent on the Liver performance which is generally genetic.
