How to go to Haridwar from Delhi?

I want to visit Haridwar because it’s the Kumbh season.

1. Can I directly go to railway station and buy a 2S (Second Sitting?) seat, if available? This is for any train that leaves within an hour or so. I can’t book in advance because I don’t know what day a I’ll visit. Is this possible? Do they sell tickets like this? Haven’t traveled via train since lockdown happened, so, don’t know.

2. Is there any taxi stand anywhere in Delhi from where i can board a shared taxi to haridwar? For ex. One can board shared taxi from Karnal bypass bus stand for Chandigarh anytime.

3. Are roadways buses operating and can be boarded anytime of the day? If yes, from which station?

Thanks.

Mostly the scenarios are very similar to pre covid… Till now everything is as usual(Like u can board Roadways or texi Or train) but can’t say the situation will remain same during Kumbh… As new rules will come into picture during that time for security and precautionary measure…

You mean to say all trains with CURR prefix can be booked from counter right at the departure time, if seats are available?https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/667205/medium/IMG_20210220_210910.jpg?1613835646

I would recommend taking a bus instead. You can get one from ISBT (Kashmere Gate). They usually run every 30 Mins/ 1Hr all the time except after 9 at night. If you need AC bus its frequency is a little lower and is also available at Kashmere Gate Bus Station. Journey Time should be approx 6-9 Hrs depending on whether you take one in morning or day time.

Are you sure that these buses are operating these days? I will be traveling any time in the next two weeks. This would be most suitable for me.

OMG! When did this happen?
Do I need this if I’m visiting outside Kumbh dates (Apr 1 – Apr 30)?

Don’t think will be a big deal to reach haridwar from Delhi by any mode of transport.
Bus will be a good option giving lot of flexibility of time and Saving Time too.
As far as I know interstate travel is running so you can get a uttrakhand roadways bus from Kashmiri gate.
Even if interstate bus travel is down you can reach narsan border with any up roadways bus from there you can get any local vehicle or bus to get there.
But not sure about the current rules regarding I think covid test is required to visit kumbh.
Although don’t know how strict the implementation is so plan the journey accordingly.

Since you mentioned 2S seats, the best option would be Janshatabdi Express, from New Delhi station, daily at around 3.30 PM. Reaches Haridwar usually between 7.30-8 PM. But dont know about current tickets at the last moment. If you could plan even 2/3 days in advance, then u can get the tickets mostly. Even one day before, getting its tatkal is easy. Costs around 150, the cheapest and quickest mode.

Even normal non-buses buses would cost slightly more. If you want bus, you can go to Kashmere Gate ISBT anytime and usually will get one bus within the next hour or so. Its better to go inside and travel via the Uttarakhand or UP SRTC, instead of the private buses haggling outside the ISBT. More comfortable would be an AC one obviously. Its already getting hot here in Delhi.

I dont think any taxi/sharing would be cheaper. Unless you know someone travelling on that route and giving a lift for some expense. Or if you can arrange a CNG car, that would also work out quite cheap, specially if in group and not alone. There’s a CNG station in Muzaffarnagar for sure, dont know about CNG availability in Roorkie and Haridwar yet.
