We had to keep the oil Diya/lamp always lit, but due to the inherent nature of oil getting seeped into pores of earthen clay Diya (lamp)

Has anyone got

before use soak them in water for 2 hours. so that their pores get filled with water and they don't soak oil.

Diyas are cheaply available. Buy more diyas and replace them once they leak. Saves time and money too.

Considering they have to be lit always, replacing frequently is not an option. Also amount of oil that gets wasted through seepage needs to be avoided.

We are using metal (brass) diya. It won't leak.

Can we keep something at the bottom to collect the leaked oil?

This is what we are doing. We place a piece of plastic below the diya.

You need Oil/Ghee and cotton wicks too so diyas are a lot of hassle (except Dia Mirza).

I have switched to plain tealight candles.

Soak them in water for 4 hrs before use, it's a necessary step for soil based diyas

If the lamp lights for long hours, the leaked oil collected (in plastic below diya) will be in muddy mixed colour. the oil will not be in clear for reuse.
