I have an additional Jio number that I wish to permanently close. Does anyone know what is standard procedure or if anyone has done this before?

Send port out request from Jio. Join another network using same documents but don’t do first recharge for that number.

I’m aware of this hack man. Need to know if there is an official way to do it

People have working jio sim even after an year of no recharge. It’s strange we don’t have any official way to Surrender a number even though mobiles have been in market for over 2 decades now.
Looks like Trai never thought on these lines.

You can try with twitter.. Tell them you misplaced it & don’t want it to be misused by someone. So they will temporarily close that sim. Let it remain like that only otherwise. But in this case, there is high probability of same number getting reissued to somebody else after 6 months @cocay

Complain that you lost your phone and request to close the sim.

Make a complain of stolen sim.

Getting it deactivated is no problem. All you have to do is make a call. But there is always a risk of that number being used later by their own staff or to issue to someone else without changing the ownership.

My temporarily closed idea number was re-assigned to somebody else too soon & I got to know this from my friends. I made fake calls to that number to check if new owner was misusing sim under my name & also to double check, I visited Idea sub dealer to ensure if that guy was using sim with my documents or not & found it to be genuinely reassigned.

Once I asked CC to close one number by calling from a different number, reason – sim lost ; all they said that you can get a new replacement sim free of cost. 😂😂😂 The number is still active (without recharge for some 7-8 months)

Personally I would call you lucky. I have seen a lot of threads on dd itself where people’s numbers were working even after over six months of no recharge. With Airtel, reassign is possible but with jio it is dicey

Yeah, they first deactivate your original sim. Then you go to jio store with id proof and they give you new SIM. Done twice after I lost my phone twice

Nowadays it is not possible to issue replacement sim if the owner is not in front of retailer. Just 2 months back I have applied for replacement sim from Airtel and Vodafone, they asked for a original photo I’d and clicked a photo of it. Then they clicked a picture of mine and their own selfie to issue me a new replacement sim.

That’s good man. AVOID takes pleasure in punishing users by closing number, deducting balance and what not.
Problem is only with jio

You can suspend the sim service’s from jio.com .
Also I can see a new option- tariff protection, don’t know what it is. After clicking it, there is an error that I already have an active plan. Somebody please confirm what is tariff protection.

Idea network is good at these. They reassign it as soon as the directed period > 3-6 months is completed.

Same thing happened to me as well in Jio.
Although it was a year I think. I had linked my email and got the mail that my Jio sim was deactivated or something.
I put the sim in phone and sure enough it was dead. Now its on someone else’s name.
People who keep it in their phones will never have it closed even if the network area is congested.

Tell that to my Airtel and Vodafone sims which have not been closed even after no recharge for more than a year.

It has been there since the start of Jio.
Its for users who have no active plan.
It will be there for a couple of months after the expiry of the previous plans, I guess.
You can recharge using it at old rates and plans for one time.
