Is there any way to track child coming home in a carpool. The best and cheapest way. I need to work on this.

If it is for pets or kids, cheapest may not be best.
AirTags work almost okay, but not many in India might have iphone (off of which the Airtags would bounce off the location).
GPS trackers would work okay I guess.
But beware of them not being fool proof either.
And yes, the satellites themselves are prone to issues, even if the owners (U.S. government?) is okay sharing the usage

For live tracking you will have to rely on subscription services even after paying for a gps device.
I think buying a 2nd hand phone could be another option.
Also you can track the car driver himself via his phone or even you can put a tracking device on his car(maybe every parent of carpool can come together for this) as these car tracking devices are much cheap and readily available now.

Compare the crime rate and road accident rate when you were a child with the crime rate of 2022.
There is nothing wrong with tracking loved ones if you’re mature enough to understand the saftey importance and not immature enough to fight over silly privacy woke with your parents.
I am in my 20s; I tracked my father’s mobile and installed the same for my location on his device. He is a traveling person, and sometimes he doesn’t receive calls and forgets to the callback. His location assures me of his safety.

With due respect Don’t want to justify either side thoughts , but one needs to understand Need and jabardasti ka need . Or else even if one keeps personal assistant or bodyguard even then he can be skeptical.

The simplest and most effective way to track the device is by finding google find my Device.
It is official app support from google, and you’ll have to log in with the same account on the child’s mobile and parent’s mobile. Turn on the GPS permanently; GPS drains almost 0 power during standby and consumes only when you’re requesting the API to request the location. Another feature is it rings even in silence when you order from the parent’s side. So, you can put it in silent to keep it disturbance-free during lectures.

Buy the cheapest smart phone. Add a SIM with data balance. Charge battery to full. Switch on location services. Put it on silent mode. Hide it in your kids bag so that even he is not able to find it and take it out mistakenly or out of curiosity. (Schools may confiscate phones if found with students). Either use WhatsApp live location or use Google Find My Device.

some parents have to wait long on their door to receive their small kids. preschool to ukg. Some is using private carpool operators who do not provide proper followup. just to decrease their wait time on the door they need location tracker.
