iMobile keeps crashing after today's update

Today I saw an update to iMobile app on Play and took it. Since then the app keeps crashing with the usual android system pop up which says imobile keeps stopping or whatever. I uninstalled the app and freshly installed it, but same. Now I am on a custom ROM and also rooted, so there’s that, but that never restricted me from using any app, including the prior releases of imobile itself.

Does anyone know how to manually download an apk? I mean I want to roll back to the previous working version.

Aurora store is a safe, open source alternative to Google play store. It gets the apks directly from play store

And in case of any online fraud done via some data leak from some app in your mobile, many banks will straightaway reject the claim citing violation of “proper cyber security measures” by the customer. Do not experiment with devices on which financial txns are done because banks have full right to reject any claim for fraud for which customer has not followed the “standard security measures”(no otp sharing, no unauthorized/unofficial app/software, no remote access app/software etc).

Thanks for replies fellas. Well, it’s my setup specific it seems. I installed the app on mum’s phone (which runs on Android 8 still, Lol) and it installed fine. Something broke after today’s update, not sure what! My device doesn’t pass safetynet, that could be a reason, it’s rooted albeit magisk is hidden with zygisk enabled and imobile put under deny list as well, nothing works! I shared the log with dev of Lineage and also intimated ICICI on Twitter, let’s see.

I still can’t believe there is no safe way to roll back to previous working version! Tried to find the apk on apkmirror but to no avail. Funny, on Play Store today’s update is not even reflecting, it still says 1st Feb! Something is messed up.

That’s an understatement, one of the main aim of any custom rom dev is to pass safetynet check. Without it you can be sure that many financial apps won’t work.

Like @saxena_ said, third party websites aren’t hosting these banking apps. You’re downloading the apps directly from PlayStore server (millions of them) and the hash/checksum of these downloaded apps should match the one downloaded from the Google store (Its different in the case of apps from third party stores like Amazon AppStore). So, even google assumes that you’ve downloaded the app from its store directly and lets you update it

Anyways OP is on a custom rom like many of us do (& many banking apps don’t allow their apps when the OS is modified which we obv bypass via Root/Magisk)

Yes, there’s still some risk as a third party app/service is used a medium to download these apps but if the user is okay with running banking apps on modified OS this should be okay too (Provided, the user trusts the source)

Anyhow, I had one someone to share the older version’s apk with me (via Google Drive), but the main apk contains three files within it, a base apk, a spills activity and one other. Now the base.apk alone refuses to install and the whole apk won’t open saying can’t open this package or whatever.

@guest_999 Till date I have not found a single app, bank related or otherwise to not work due to safetynet.

Ask your friend to take the app backup via SAI and send it to you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=c...

Can use the same app or ApkMirror Installer to install the split app package
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=c...

If you both live close by, try Google’s Share Apps feature (via PlayStore)

They disabled login via User ID and Password in new app. Not updating app unless forced update is there. Seems there is some bug

@getready I didn’t have to ask him to share the file using that app again, as I installed the app myself and checked whether the files he had already sent yesterday worked with the app and sure it installed just fine. I can’t thank you enough, tried to add karma but site won’t let me. Now I’m on version 14.1 and it works just fine. I noticed last night that others also have reported on Play regarding the app crash, so just to be on the safer side don’t take the update especially if you’re on a custom/rooted setup.

ICICI Net banking is the best. Their apps are however completely messed up. Pockets has a keyboard related bug for last 2 years but the developers never respond. They mess up imobile every once in a while. And OTP verification also has major bug. Never update unless they stop support of earlier version.

paji do app companies know from where a customer installed it?why are they allowing app to work in first place if not done from google store?

Modified app is just like a cracked software, if there are not enough checks then no way to differentiate easily plus it needs more technical expertise/budget which not all app companies can afford/want to do. Main point is, if you claim fraud for a domestic txn that require otp & you claim you never shared the otp but instead otp was somehow leaked from your mobile by some app then bank will ask for a technical analysis of phone to confirm & if they found out it is true but the app that leaked the data was not installed from playstore/phone os custom rom/rooted then most likely they will reject the claim on the grounds of customer not following the recommended security measures.

I had blocked trackers embedded in most of the apps including the official HDFC one but it seemed to work just fine. But suddenly it kept crashing every time today. I thought I would have to reinstall it which would have been a problem since the regd. no didn’t have  SV. Luckily I remembered to undo the change and it worked. Like they say gotta exercise power responsibly…

In cases where customer claim otp hacked then onus is on customer to prove it by submitting a verified technical analysis of the phone which bank will cross check I guess using their own hired security experts.
