In search of best value back credit card

Which credit card provides highest value back in terms of Rupee value?

There is a need to spend large sum for this year and coming year for higher education. There are many cards that provide rewards. But Rupee value of the reward points vary depending on the provider.

I am initiating this thread to search for the best value back card and not best rewards or best cashback cards.

(Pls refer the deal wiki section for more details.)

Can you plz suggest more cards with better value back?

Their is no one size fit all solution here. credit card usage and rewards are dependent upon your spend profile and preferences. for eg – if you a frequent flier, you might use a card that has good reward rate on air miles conversion, like Infinia or sbi air India etc.

I prefer to use cards based on their reward milestones and category. for eg –
1. BOB Eterna – monthly usage of ~42k on rental payments (reward rate of ~3.75%)
2. HDFC Diner – monthly usage of 80k on rental/others (reward rate of 3.3% + INR 1000 vouchers)
3. HDFC Infinia – regular household expenses (reward rate of 3.3%)
4. SBI Ola – monthly usage of ~7200 to convert to amazon vouchers (reward rate of 15%) – not using since last month because of ola postpaid issues
5. Amex MRCC+Gold charge – 12k monthly on paytm load (reward rate of 6.8% when redeemed for 24k collection)
6. Axis Ace – for bill payments (reward rate of 5%)
7. SBI Elite – Movie tickets & Groceries (2 tickets free per month, 5x on groceries)
8. SBI Air India/Infinia/Amex Plat Travel – all big purchases

You can’t, it is something only admins/mods can do. At best you can edit/create deal wiki but that requires at least Deal captain level(requires min 7000 karma points).

According to me -
1. Amex MRCC
2. IDFC – any card
3. Axis Ace / ICICI Amazon Pay

But it is still your choice. All the information available here at your disposal.

I searched about this card. Not able to find the how many points one can earn on spending certain amount. Also, I see that they have their own portal to redeem the rewards. It is also not clear what is the value of a point. Do let us know if you have these details.

Flat 1-1.5% cashback directly as statement credit for this axis Freecharge card
Do use the search functionality in Desidime, you will get good number of threads with vast amount of information already shared by many dimers for almost all cards.

Thanks for the information. However, can you plz point me to Axis’s site for this information ? It is better to get the info from authentic source coupled with someone’s experience.

I tried to check it here – https://www.axisbank.com/retail/cards/credit-ca... but couldn’t find that info.

Redemption options are available here -

The most sensible ones are Croma, Bigbazaar and Max vouchers.

Redemption charges : There are two conflicting information. At one place (https://av.sc.com/in/content/docs/in-common-stm...) it says there is a charge of Rs. 99 that covers the courier charges. But then there are e-vouchers available for redemption. Earlier, I redeemed points of Super Value Titanium card for Fastrack voucher and I didn’t incur any redemption charges.

Update to redemption charges: Checked with Standard Chartered CC. Redemption charge of Rs.99 + 18% GST is now mandatory.

@MJ911, I forgot to ask you to add the following information on the main post. Can you plz add ?

Standard Chartered Ultimate : Flat 3.3% cashback. No limit, no categories, no exclusions. ₹5000 joining fee, ₹6000 cashback. ₹5000 renewal fee, ₹5000 cashback. Redemption only at SC’s rewards360 website.

There is a mistake in the main post.

The Standard Chartered Platinum is actually Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium card.

I will ask @MJ911 to update it with the latest info.

Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium : 4% cashback on fuel (5% Cashback – 1% Surcharge), Max ₹2000/transaction. Max. cb ₹200/month. 5% cashback on telecom and utility – postpaid mobile, landline, electricity, DTH, water and piped gas. Min Rs.₹750/transaction, Max cb ₹200/month for telecom, ₹100/month for utility. Telecom and utility must be paid through SC’s billpay section of the website.

With so many conditions, ifs and buts the card has lost its appeal.

This 5% we can easily get on payzapp.
No use of this card with so many conditions

True. However payzapp has limited transactions. Axis Ace also give 5% on GooglePay.

The only advantage of this card is to get 4% cashback on fuel. As per my understanding it is the only card that gives net 4% cashback.

But that too is capped at ₹200/month. That means at the max you can fill up for ₹5000 of petrol/diesel to make use of it. And in one go you cannot fill up for more than ₹2000 pensive

This card is losing its charm. As mentioned its not very appealing.

Yes, previously it was a very good card with 5% on all transactions.
Now it useless

@MJ911 , Thank for adding the Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium. But Standard Chartered Platinum had to be replaced with it. Now, please delete the line of Standard Chartered Platinum.

Hi @MJ911 ,

Please remove the below line from the main post -
“Standard Chartered Platinum : 2.5% cb on fuel (5% cb – 2.5% surcharge). 1pt/₹150 spent. ₹0.26/point. Max ₹500 cb/month”

Yesterday, I also learned (the hard way) that IndusInd bank Platinum card does not give 1.27% flat cash back. It gives 0.68% cashback for -
Utility Bill Payments
Insurance Premium Payments
Government Services/Charges/Payments
Education Institute Fees

For all other categories it will be 1.27% though.

I found a new card – BoB Select.

All the reward related information is not available on its website – https://www.bobfinancial.com/select-ca...sp but from the net it seems that a reward point is valued at ₹0.25. With that the reward is ₹1.25/₹100 spent on Dining, Utility bills, Online. Capped at ₹250/month.
₹0.25/₹100 spent on everything else.

An interesting feature is 1000 rewards points / ₹5000 spent every month ! (₹1000x5) This means ₹250 cashback every month !
This is just inspired by Amex smile

And if you spend ₹6000/month or ₹72000/year you get annual fee waiver.

Anyone hold this card ? Can anyone verify this information ?

How is the card and customer service? Any hidden conditions? Do you get any other offers? Are you able get RPs on wallet loads?

BoB is not exactly known for their credit card customer service, also there is a 1000 points per month cap on 5x program(1.25/100 spend on Dining, Utility bills, Online spends). @bridges mentioned incorrectly Rs.1/100 spend, it is 1 point or Rs.0.25/100 spend for everything else.

I too have this card.
Next to amex MRCC. I spend 5k every month. Approx 6% RPs. plus they often give discounts for groceries.
Nice card to hold.

₹0.25/₹100 on everything else. I have corrected that in that post now. Thank you for pointing out the mistake.

Also added the internal cap.
