Independent house - top floor gets heated more than expected in summers

My house is very unique and it gets really really hot in summers. I’ve seen people’s house on the top floor which does get heated in the afternoon and the effect subsides as day passes but mine gets heated and creates kind of greenhouse effect because of less or no ventilation.
So, I’m thinking of doing something so that I can reduce the effect to a great extent.
Not thinking of getting painted the terrace white, apart from that please suggest something.
This is what I’ve thought but needs a good amount of effort and money :
I’m thinking to start gardening in pots, that way surface area of terrace will be covered with flower pots but this will take good amount of money and the effort to maintain it. If one can share links to make this successful, do let me know.
P.S. I’m from Patna. Any local reference will also help along with your suggestion 😊

the amount of money will be worth it they will absort most of the heat. Add small green plants like alovera also.
Yes, it’s good in several terms but was looking for a lazy option as well 
The main reason being there will be times no one will be at home for a month or so and I can’t see my plants dying

Just cove the sides and top of the wall with a good thick black plastic sheet. Keep space of 30 to 40 cms between the cover and wall.
just put up a layer of soli for rooftop gardening and add some small plants, might cost a few thousand but still cheaper than solar
edit: instead of pots, get a big enough plastic sheet to cover larger areas and then use bricks below and side of them for support
no no, that will be very weird, first of all, I fear damping and damaging of iron TMT bars from rusting
second is, I need to walk and enjoy the terrace as well
You can use those green shade nets with 70% opacity (or whatever level shade you want) – usually used on farms, nurseries to prevent hot sun from young plants/saplings.
Arrange some means to hook them up so that they cover the roof. After summer is over, you can roll them up and store for the next year 
POP based false ceiling, and place thermocol sheet between ceiling and pop false ceiling. Will greatly reduce heat.
Can anybody suggest what to do to avoid “Liquid-fire” (Hot water) coming out from Tap during summers? 
Is this being built on hollow blocks. Generally hollow block brinks emits high heats but easy for construction. Better to use red bricks for construction

i have laid a layer of mangalore tiles on my terrace. i felt it was cooler than last year. also no fear of water seepage or dampening.i got used tiles for this purpose at 5 rs per tile. new one costs 25-35 rs each.
How much are you willing to spend? If you plan to cover the roof with plants, that’s going to cost a lot of money too. Don’t be under the impression that pots and plants are cheap.
