India seals Historic Airbus Military Aircraft Deal

Under the deal, 16 aircraft will be delivered in a flyaway condition by Airbus Defence and Space within 48 months of signing the contract. The remaining 40 planes will be manufactured in India by a consortium of Airbus Defence and Space and Tata Advanced Systems within 10 years of the contract.
This is the first project of its kind in which a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company. A large number of detail parts, sub-assemblies and major component assemblies of aerostructure are scheduled to be manufactured in India.

Great news. But what happened to Hindustan Aeronautic Limited (HAL)? It’s a GoI owned defense enterprise and has years of experience in defense tech. Jut my ₹2 opinion but I strongly believe that defense manufacturing for core tech like airplanes should be under public enterprises and not corporates.
