This is happening since last year with multiple airlines I believe. Not sure but if checkin via airport kiosks, it will be free but getting all 3 seats together may not be possible.

I have booked 3 tickets in Indigo airlines under single PNR. Now as per Govt. guideline for Covid-19, web check-in is compulsory. I was trying to web check-in for the same immediately after booking. They are showing only 4 free seats, that too all middle seat of different rows. To my surprise, All other seats are paid
I just want 3 seats together in any row which is free. What’s the solution? As of now I haven’t booked it yet because of these charges. 48hrs. before flight departure, web chek-in will open & I have to book it anyhow.
Can anyone tell me, what’s the solution for it?
Pay the money and get the seat, otherwise you all will be seated in diff rows.
Nothing new. You get middle seats only free.
Ohh, that’s clear looting by them !!!
Out of 3 seats, 1 seat is for my 2 yrs. old kid, how can she seat alone?
They were showing me 2 option – 1) Give seat randomly which is free & 2) Choose ur own seat. In 2nd option only 4 seats they were showing as free !!! If I choose option 1, they might or definitely give seats in different rows…
Don’t worry …. seems this is with web check-in only…. I came via indigo last month and have paid 198 Rs for middle row. Unfortunately the transaction got stuck and the seat was not confirmed. In the airport they gave the middle seat without charge.
Yes in web check in , most of the airlines will charge if u select seat manually… Leave seat selection , system will assign manually after chart preperation.
In many airlines travel before one day seat selection is free .. I will select free window seat 1 day before Travel .
Doing This Free Seat Technique Many Times…
There should be an option to assign seats automatically during web check-in on Indigo, the system will appoint seats wherever available including window seats 12-6 hours prior departure. This is because the airline wants to keep the window open for passengers willing to pay for their preferred seats as much as possible. Later on they will allocate all vacant seats to the people who selected this option.

@Thunder766
Yes that option is there, but I am afraid that If I select that option, they will assign all seats in different rows.

Yes, that’s definitely a possibility, but if you want seats in the same row, you can get that by paying only. I don’t think Indigo allows us to pick seats for free a day before departure, I have used this trick on a Air India flight in the past though.
Can anyone tell me what to do for Baggage Tag.
Indigo has written in mail like this “• Carry a printed or soft copy of boarding pass and baggage tag, you can print them at the airport kiosk as well. Please note only certain airports are equipped with kiosks which print baggage tags, hence it is advised that you mention your name and PNR on a thick paper and tag it to your baggage before reaching the airport.”
In 1 other mail, they have written to take print out of bar code of web chek-in & apply on baggage.
I m not getting exactly what to do !!

Just carry the hard copy of boarding pass, it’s a single document, the rest they’ll handle it.
This is common practice from Indigo since last few years
Work around is go early to airport and do check in from their kiosk for free (not sure if that still is possible in current times)

can we get any seat in kiosk for free?
Go for the free seats which is given by them. Reach out to airport in time & when you are at the baggage drop counter, ask them to make the seats together. Usually, they will do if seats are available. Faced a similar situation with Air India few days back. In my case, there weren’t any seats available which were together. I had done web checkin some 10-12 hrs before flight departure.

dont do any web checking
Go to airport and tell them that there was some error and cc asked to check at airport.
Had done same recently
Thanks Dimers for reply.
Looks like everyone is facing this problem & irony is that DGCA is keeping mum on it.
All have given different suggestions. Now again confused what to do. But looks like, If I skip seat selection, I will get all 3 seats together by default that’s what I am assuming from reply…
I generally reach at the airport and request the staff at their airline counter if they could please get me one window seat and give them a sweet smile
This generally works even if they have 1 seat left out in the whole aircraft (and it serves my purpose):D

DGCA may believe that such additional charges for the airline will lower the basic fare.
If seats are not selected the seats can be in different rows as the airline system will
allocate seats so as to keep the middle seat vacant based on DGCA Guidelines.
With Indigo the front few rows (1-5) are charged higher and mostly it will be free
and can get allocated by the counter staff.
Pehle chal rha tha …. Now they are stubborn… Either do web chekin.. or pay 100 for doing counter checkin… Or check if kiosk chekin is available for u.. i travelled last week from bangalore… 100 dia for getting counter chekin.. window seat mili uske sath
Not an expert but i think you can do web checking without selecting seats and later get free seats at the airport based on availability.

Paying 100 can be mess at busy airport. Have seen b8g queue at Indigo counter recently at Hyderabad though for other airlines queue wasn’t big as Indigo
adrishya wrote:can we get any seat in kiosk for free?
Free ticket:- Yes
Any free ticket :- depends
For example during my trip to Bagdogra from Hyderabad I wasnt able to select seats of my choice but at the time of return I was able to select seats for free. Both the time it was free but seat choice wasn’t available once.
P.s both the times it was Indigo and this happened 1.5 yr back

Yo to hai bhai… But being a lounge addict.. mei 2-3 ghante ka margin le k chalta hu satth mei 🤪🤪
Now web check-in is open. I have only 2 options 1) Pay for all 3 seats to get seat together
2) Auto select seats without any charges.
These auto select seats, if i choose right now, they will assign me seat right now (In that case, i m guessing that they will intensionally give all middle seat of different rows) or at last (In last 6 hrs. before flight departure when everyone have done their seat selection)?
Or should I wait & do web check-in at last moment with auto seat selection?
Meanwhile I have done complaint on twitter with tagging DGCA, Indigo (Although I know nothing is going to happen) !!!
Indigo’s reply on twitter for my complaint "Hi, please know our free seats are limited and get occupied very quickly. You can choose “auto-assign” for free of cost seat. However, for the preferred seats, the necessary charges will be applicable. Hope you understand! ~ Keshav"
Then I replied to them like this: "Why can’t I see, even a single free seat? When u r saying for “Auto-assign” it is free, then be transparent & put those free seats in public domain openly, rather than keeping surprised of Auto-assign so that customers pay unnecessary expense in panic !! @ DGCAIndia @ HardeepSPuri"
Check in at Airport now costs extra. For Indigo, Flexi fare is better option as you get free seat, free meal and option to change flights upto 48 hours earlier.
drjpatwa wrote:So finally my complaint did work. Indigo assign me all 3 seats together as 1 time gesture for free of cost

I always try to fight for the wrong things with 0% hope. Many times we take it granted & don't complain that's the issue.
