Hi Friends,

Just want to know if some one is aware about how to find Merchants registered under different Merchant Category Codes (MCC).

Generally, Merchants are registered under different MCC Codes by Credit card provider companies like Visa, MatsterCard.

I am posting this topic because, in many cases where banks provide cashback deals on particular category, the cashback amount to be credited or not, depends on the MCC Code with which the merchant is registered.

I am attaching a below image of MCC Codes for Merchants under different category, if some one is aware about any Merchant registered with the MCC Codes seen in the list, Please let me/us know.

All Credit Cards categorise merchants basis Visa MCC codes.
Few cards even show which category a particular merchant belong to. Few cards have accelerated rewards for certain category.
Like Indusind Platinum Aura (@rpal) have different plans for different categories.
ICICI Rubyx (@disclaimer) & Axis My Choice cards have categories to choose for accelerated rewards
.
I had tried to gather this information long back but could never get a wholesome list
Now relying upon previous experience & spends

ICICI Rubyx has stopped preferred category accelerated rewards, now you get 2x rewards only on international spends.

Check SBI Prime welcome booklet to get some category codes.

Bro, How did you figure out 4814 belongs to airtel money … was it only due to the fact that its a telecom service provider or did u find the same from some manual/info on the web/booklet etc ?

But I am close to 100% sure on it that Merchant name for this MCC Code is Airtel Money… smile

Out of my different cards, IndusInd Platinum Aura and Citibank Cashback card mentions merchant category. But even they mention category and not the actual code. The others do not mention it. So I go by experience. However, even there, Paytm and Mobikwik had been reflected under different categories in different transactions.

Bigbazars and most Foodbazar are shown as departmental stores. However some foodbazars are shown as groceries. EZone is shown differently, dont remember what. Never shopped at DMart.

On the payment confirmation receipt you get, does it have the MCC code
How do you find the MCC code of a certain store even after billing, I understand before billing would be very difficult.

Oh ok. Hdfc keeps stopping giving pts (or even devaluations incl of existing pts). This is esp. true for txn of specific sites E.g. CRED, payment banks etc.

Paytm has multiple registrations out of which only certain was counted as telecom

MCC category can be changed also if Merchant raises request
With update in business area (For Airtel it was shift from Telecom to Bank) so they may raise change request

Only Airtel wallet customers can add money using cc and not the one’s who have converted it into payments bank account.

Hmm.
Itna to Udio aka Dhanni pay bhi charge nahi karta. flushed

In that case, will it even make sense to add money to airtel wallet using credit card, and use it anywhere. At the most, may be w/o adding if somebody uses it directly, it may not be charging this extra 1%… anyways not using it, not finding a reason to use t and so no concerned or affected as such!! confused

And if you or somebody meant adding money to apb using Hdfc dc not giving pts, even then its bad but cant do much abt it i guess!!

Yes. No point of adding money via CC to airtel wallet. As such there monthly limit of 9k will make it useless and if you complete kyc then you’re automatically converted to savings bank customer and can’t use cc anymore.
Best app for adding money via cc is tmw. It’s been my best investment for completing kyc till date blush
HDFC Regalia cc gives me RPs for adding money here and not in any other wallet.

True. TMW is a robust and (mostly) a free option for a prepaid kyc wallet/vcc.
They even give points 0.5%/1% net if we spend after adding through through CC/DC!!
It is considered as good as a credit card by most sites, except few like Paytm which have started declining add money through prepaid cards!!
