We used PayPal for sending and receiving money.

My Bil has used HDFC Securities for investing in US markets and also for sending money abroad for education. I’ll ask him about swift transfer. However, the cost to benefit ratio and return to headache ratio is too high while filing IT returns. You can easily add 10-15% in cost addition while the profits are taxed 20% as Equity abroad is treated as Debt at home.

Stick to International mutual funds for investing abroad. We in India can invest in 8 exclusive benchmarks of US market itself including ETFs, Index Funds, Fund of Funds and Feeder funds and also 1 or 2 Flexi Cap funds having exposure to US Mega Cap companies.

Even within the main US indices you have value vs Growth funds. EW vs Market cap based fund etc.

Then you have Greater Asia region funds, Japan, Brazil, Emerging markets fund, Consumer Trends worldwide, Healthcare US, Tech US, Developed markets fund etc etc.

What is EW?
Are foreign investing benefits less than the headache involved?

Vested is the cheapest and most established one. Use them. They charge least per withdrawal.

@kukdookoo

Vested is not the broker. It’s an intermediary. End broker is DriveWealth, USA. What if they (Vested) refuse to process your withdrawal? Where to complain then? What happens if the US tax authorities put your brokerage house under scrutiny and freezes all its accounts? When does the incidence of double taxation treaty come into play?

Do you know the rules of FTC? Foreign Tax Credit is a complicated thing if you opt for the dividend option. For a start, the rate of conversion is not the date when dividend is paid to you but the value of USD on the last day of the preceding month. Exchange margin is added to the inter bank rate while processing this conversion. Also, if your FTC is more than your taxable limit in India, you won’t be refunded for tax paid abroad.

Do you know the tax year in USA is from Jan-Dec and not Apr- Mar like in India? And, the biggest “Ummm” of all – These ITR with FTC are processed manually and not automatically.

you don’t matter to them until and unless your ticket size is higher
When does the incidence of double taxation treaty come into play?
that comes into play only in case of dividends

then don’t invest in dividend paying stocks.moreover the dividend is like 0.10% etc so it don;t matter much until ur ticket size is higher
