Some uneducated idiots who get jobs through illegal backdoors write a kid’s name all wrong in various govt papers and the mother’s name too in the kid’s birth certificate and now the parents are having shitload of trouble bcz of NRC  and are now refusing to help correct the name. It’ll be trouble when filling up the kid’s HSLC admit card and college admission.
The child’s in 9th standard now and a bright student (Possible rank holder). The principal can help them out but he’s an a** and is bias towards Assamese students.

So I feel bad but have no idea how to help them out.
Kid’s parents are maid and labourer. They’re like 6th and 8th class pass. They’re not very educated and too poor and scared to go to court.
And the father got beaten up on the 3rd day in the Panjabari office when he fell on their feet.
The parents’ are out of their wits.
Is there any office or a procedure to prove that they’re the same ppl – (kid and mom) and have their names’ spellings corrected for good.
It’ll be better if the procedure is free of charge or at least in minimum range, below 1000.

The kid doesn’t have aadhar. His birth certificate and NRC has the same name (the one with wrong spelling and they would like to keep that since these are govt papers)
and the school name (with the correct spelling but wants to change it to match with official documents). And the principal refuses to change the name and send them to an office to clarify that.
In my school days in 9th standard, a lot of general students changed their surnames to lower caste surnames (to get reservations lol).
At that time, they did it before 10th final exams and none of them had any problem.
The mother’s name spelling and maiden/husband surname is also causing problem. But their main focus is to correct their son’s name right.

The position of Assam is different than the rest of the country, due to NRC. For many years, Aadhaar was not even made applicable there. So a lawyer working in any other part of the country would not have the necessary experience to comment on the issue.

I have the qualification but do not practice. So you can say I am not a lawyer.
However, I spent more than 3 years at Guwahati as part of my work in recent past.

But is there a way to at least match the name in school before HSLC exam registration.
As I said they just want to match the wrong name spelling on govt papers with the school but the principal is adamant.
I’ve thought about calling news channels on this issue but the parents are scared if their kid gets expelled.

The authority is with the Principal. So if he refuses, not much can be done, except may be political intervention or change of school.

This is really tricky. As the principal can sabotage the child’s future.
I’m thinking about contacting a journalist and discuss if they can contact a student union leader.
Hopefully, a solution is reached before January.
