I last watched a cricket match in 2004 and that was it. Now i just watch probably 30 minutes in an entire 100 overs match, I am a 90’s kid and was used to watch each ball of an ODI and pray for India to win . But now i don’t even follow cricket news.
I still remember when people can’t even sleep if india lost the match.
It is more like a festival and atleast we usually discuss a great century or a great catch for days.
But now… every body hitting sixes, simply hitting centuries, bowling is so weak and the rules are always favoured to batsmen.
Back then there is tough competition between bowlers and batsmen. Bowlers are gems those days.
I still remembered the pain of 2003 world cup final, but I don’t remembered 2015 world cup match where india lost. That’s how it changed.Atleast for me, cricket is not an emotion anymore.
India, pak, bangladesh , srilanka are the only countries that are mad about cricket. Australia – Rugby , its own version of Football. NZ – Rugby , Football . SA – Rugby , Football. England – Football . West Indies – Cricket has collapsed over there , people are looking towards football, athletics. I guess as Kevin Pitersen said, in next 10 years only 5 countries will play cricket .

You will love it. I know you.
I don’t think cricket is losing popularity but now a days all other games also getting popular previously all are only interested in cricket now a days all are interested in other sports too
As you grow old your interest in earning increases than taking interest in other things, childhood is nothing but enjoying the life without any sort of worries , for most of the people
@Dealkeeper I too felt the same & I have always wondered and thought the same .I nvere used miss amy matches India played and keeped an eye other international matches would read the Scorecard in newspapers.
Will read the full Match Summary in English Newspaper.
Wud be too sad if India lost and If Sachin cudnt score well and always wanted to see Sachin raise the bat on centuries.
I would prefer Finding some deals or Buying things at a cheaper price or wishlist and filter items.
Hav I become a Shopaholic? 😬 No I think I just buy needful things but somethings in advance like dresses even if I don’t need it right now I wud purchase and keep if it’s available for a better price.
I wish and Always Imagine to put same effort in Finding Job Deals 🤗 so that I can Earn a Lot..more.People prefer being glued to their mobile phones than spending time with friends.
Open spaces for street cricket have reduced considerably over last 15 years owing to rapid development, especially in cities.
And then, people also grow up. Things other than cricket take priority at different stages in life
20-20 / IPL / Greed for money destroyed this beautiful game .
Thoda time nahin lag gaya?? Apun to Hansie Cronje ke time se hi haat utha diye iss se..
Yeah, even after
Saleem Malik
Ata-ur-Rehman
Mohammad Azharuddin
Ajay Sharma
Ajay Jadeja
Manoj Prabhakar
Hansie Cronje
Herschelle Gibbs
and so on… Cricket is still called gentlemen’s game
Ipl aane k baad se sabhi ka yeh haal hai
i prefer watchin web series
In my view, cricket has loose the excitement. I still remember when complete family was mad for cricket but nowadays numbers are few. No new contenders teams. But yes, IPL is turning to be an interesting event every year with its popularity increasing.
Hopefully ISL like IPL will create some football buzz in the country.
Tbf We are not obsessed with cricket anymore.
In year 2017 pro Kabbadi exceeded the viewership of Ind Sri cricket match. And that too without anyone’s appeal.
So, is India becoming a country where people actually watch sports other than cricket?
My answer would be: A big YES!
Don’t forget we’ve been trophyless since 2014.
Bring back UPA government if you really want a Cricket World Cup/ champions trophy…….
Will hate biriyani if force-fed every day.
IPL did that to me with cricket.
Cricket has been commercialized and rules have been eased out to favour batsman, as audience enjoys more of 4s and 6s instead of dominating bowling. Cricket has just become excuse for many leagues promoting, marketing products….as u know in our times, in 90s we use to stick posters of our favourite cricketers but now there’s hardly any enthusiasm of having one, people have become practical, faced paced cricket is taking over, 60 to 50 overs, 20 to 10 and may be in future the toss will decide the winner….Kevin Pietersen is absolutely right….
In 90’s matches where not so frequent…. Now every other day there is a series or friendly matches….. People need to work and earn….. playing cricket is work for cricketers and looting is work of dimer….
Sabko aapna aapna karam karna hai…..
Cricket has definitely lost its sheen because of unfair batting advantage, as someone mentioned above and is being commercialized way too much. T20 is more like a soap opera than a competitive game with teams just going thru the motion as I find the passion missing. Kids have stopped playing coz of mobile/TV distractions but still, recently concluded IPL had record viewership.
T20 ruined interest of ODI n TEST matches still cricket has not losted it’s charm n beloved by us..
koi batyga cricket ki jagha log kya kr rhe h .
i m watching web series and you all
In long run its good that people are shifting to other sports as it will give opportunity to many. Look how kabaddi has changed life’s of many.
I also used to watch cricket ball by ball but now rarely i watch a match even when i am free.
I watch ipl every season but for few days only then gets bored
excess of cricket has made it loose its charm, specially with the advent of scripted ipl
In a way, yes. But then again, you’re comparing it to yourself when you had far more free time and empty roads to play with friends. My cousins in college still play cricket a lot on holidays in grounds. But they cannot play on busy streets like I used to do with friends in school. And they have no interest in Test cricket or even IPL. They are more interested in ODIs and Ranji for actual state teams. Watching Kabbaddi is very popular among them.
When I was obsessed with cricket in school, elders would not even care about any match except if it was against Pakistan. That’s what is happening to us as well. We have other interests, job worries, money worries, family responsibilities, etc.
IPL has never interested me. I have never seen more than one or two IPL matches every year (aside from this year due to lack of cricket the entire year and it bored me many times). ODIs these days and 20-20s are all benefiting the batsmen which has made the sport lose its charm for me. I love watching batting, but its worthless if even a tailender can come and hit a top bowler out of the ground many times. ICC has gone to shyt and is destroying cricket.
Interesting topic, I have similar query
only saw ipl playoffs this year because delhi was playing but we all knew ambani uncle le jayenge phir
Mumbai jeet gayi pr mne final nhi dekha
This is very personal view and few things may ne true for people of your age. I am 82 born and can remember excitement before series, tours.
Those times will not be back now for me.
But to say less people are interested or playing cricket is wrong. In fact cricket has grown in India in last 10 years. In smaller states, places there are so many kids playing , taking interest.
But interest in other sports have also gone up.
I hardly find any connect with Indian team nowadays except may be when they play Aussies.
Late 80s, 90s was great era as all 9 teams were of good quality, there was no IPL so no friendliness in players.
Rules are now so much skewed in favour of batsman that it feels bad.
Only thing which has tremendously improved is fielding.
Any recommendation for old classic matches to watch?? The next India match is still 3-4 days to go
this year many dimers were glued to predict win IPL on flipkart and won many prizes
….y??..
….have they found a game more apt for lazy people…
…cricket is a lazy man’s game….even most unfit uncouth guy prefer to play cricket…uncles with tummy reaching next room still consider themselves as best batsman in the locality…
Hahaha, it seems to be your personal view based on your own physical shape.
Have you ever played cricket with proper leather ball for 3 days , forget 5 days.
yes true
When I was a kid, we played football and hockey. Very few took to cricket. Then, in 1983, one young Jaat, with never say die attitude, changed everything. Suddenly cricket became the “in thing”. Over the next decade, a hockey loving nation became a cricket crazy one. The fact that India last won Olympic gold in hockey in 1980 may also have been a factor. A decade and half later, another young Bengali, with attitude, took off his shirt at Lords and the craziness surpassed everything. decade and half later, another young Bengali, with attitude, took off his shirt at Lords and the craziness surpassed everything. But then came the overdose of cricket in the form of IPL. Also, the once gentleman’s game became murkier with sledging, betting etc. And around the same time also came smart phones and then came Jio to give access to easy data. The number of playing fields available in cities also reduced as they turned into concrete jungle. So the younger generation switched to playing templerunner and pubgy instead of playing or watching sports in general and cricket in particular.
Good summary.. without giving names of particular people!
I watched less cricket after Sehwag’s retirement but I follow all games involving India. I’ll admit that live sports is great news after months of movies & TV shows during lockdown. Test cricket can be intense & there are mini duels with their own flair.
Love to watch Olympics & Asian games. Hoping the wait for Olympics won’t be long.
Sehwag reinvigorated cricket with his attacking style. He is a legend.
He attacked on dangerous pitches against sublime bowlers. Now every kid playing on tricycles can hit the ball out of the field because of the heavy tilt of the game towards batsmen.
Recently I have been watching a few Test cricket matches after years. They are again amazing nowadays.
IPL ruined it for me. Saal bhar agar matches rahenge toh koi bhi match special nahi rehta.
IPL is shit! I don’t know how lots of people watch this shit😛.
Earlier, the international matches were great since we get to know about those players rarely…Now they already Play in IPL and thus whole lot is already known about them. Also, the rivalry has decreased due to this.
True…I believe the same
Moreover I live in tier 2 town here also kids don’t play cricket
Much interested in football and other games
