Is it safe to purchase laptops from eCommerce websites?

Recently I purchased Acer Travelmate laptop from Amazon (Product link is below) and it got delivered on next day. This laptop is amazing at this price range but the problem now is I contacted Acer for extended Warranty and ADP plans, they clearly denied your laptop is not eligible for the extended warranty plans as it was purchased from ecommerce websites. The same thing I checked on their official website: https://imgur.com/a/u...14

Now I’m considering to returning this laptop but there is no return policy, only replacement policy. I contacted CC about this and they created a replacement for this product & mentioning about their policy that we cannot process your return. What should I do now?

I also considering to buy this HP laptop but they are also saying to purchase laptops from our official website or official store/showroom to claim extended warranty on products.

Always recommended provided it’s not fakeclues/paytm and other such websites.

Who was the seller on amazon, if it was appario retail/cloudtail then it is really surprising but if not then it is kind of expected.

It is expected from arrogant (and/or stupid and/or shameless) brands… irrespective of who the seller was … OR which marketplace the buyer/gift recipient received the product from.

Yes it is safe.

Previously Lenovo too would throw tantrums, but now some of their national distributors are direct vendors at Paytm etcetera.
Was ADP not available via thirdparty on Amazon?

Instead of returning (replacement order can be cancelled by L3 L4 level agents, if “exception” can be created in their tool.
Usually L3 agents are also the so called “leadership team” … supervisors of the L2/ Primary agents.
But if the site is a third party site and not directly of ADCPL, then those supervisors are of no use.
In such cases, one has to go to [email protected] the.ECR team [email protected].
E-mails sent to [email protected] too routes to ECR.

If seller is a group company like Appario or similar alpha seller, then they (CSD agents) would surely escalate it to the PoC of the seller and those people (from Cloudtail/ Appario) and Amazon will coordinate with the PoC (point of contact) with the brand.

And in over half the cases, most issues are resolved in the favour of (as wished for by) the buyer/ customer.

So do give it a shot.

Definitely one can avoid the blunder of a needless “concession” on one’s account that too of a high value and technically non remorse-return-able item.
And instead use the soft diplomacy or pressure tactics from the seller/ Amazon…. towards these brands.
If the actual bill/ business is not an authorised channel partner of the brand, then your case is weak.
[In-fact; I can go as far as to say that it is sheer ‘stupidity’ to disclose the purchase as an e-commerce purchase.. to the brand.
Rather, simply saying I bought it from “xyz enterprises” is the way to go.
Amazon orders, usually (but not always), have the legal name of the seller business on the invoice.].

If directly Order1 is returned, then only Nn,000 concession will be booked against your account.
But if the replacement (Order2) is returned for refund… then the total concession is Nn,000₹×2.
That too of low margin and fast dropping resale value item/ category: high end electronics.

Depending on various ratios, matrices and related accounts of yours (as tracked by their systems), at some point/ any point… (at the systemic level) if the TRMS thingy gets triggered… then anyone/ any team like the C.A.P. team (Concession Abuse Prevention team https://linkedin.com/in/anish-majumdar-11212218b) might have to start reviewing one’s account/s.
And trust me, now even erstwhile senior functions in risk investigation teams within Transaction Risk Management Systems are being filled up by bozos.

Sir please explain these lines as not able to understand

who are L2, L3, L4 etc. agents. how to contact them?

Definitely one can avoid the blunder of a needless “concession” on one’s account that too of a high value and technically non remorse-return-able item.

and this If directly Order1 is returned, then only Nn,000 concession will be booked against your account.
But if the replacement (Order2) is returned for refund… then the total concession is Nn,000₹×2. what concession?

Its unsafe.. only if the brand denies servicing the laptop
But that’s not the case here. They promised you a new laptop w/ warranty and the seller fulfilled it

You should’ve enquired with the brand ( for such exclusions) before making the purchase. I’m surprised with the easy approval of replacement ( On what basis, they processed it? Buyer’s remorse? )
^^ Now.. if there’s a mandatory technician visit, then the replacement request will get rejected & if its not and u are planning to return it twice for refund.. then high chances your account gets flagged

OMG😏😲
Didn’t know that now (even) Amazon tries going through SYCH loops.
Can only hope that package is in the same sealed condition or saleable as new.
Then ‘perhaps’ it might have less severity/ less adverse impact on the the relevant ratios.

Agree to the rest of the points though.

(It may even be true of ‘chillar’ orders which are not FBA). For ALL “Fulfillment by Amazon” they ‘have to’ and they DO help the buyer/ end user with ALL warranty (cintractual service) related “issues”… as per policy.
Usually no “exception” needs to be created in their systems for “such” refunds. Of-course, in certain situations Amazon does ask for procedural documents like the “service denial letter” from the service center or the brand.

Even then, they (Amazon marketplace) first try to sort it out with the brand or warranty provider.
Like in case of large appliances, it is way more simple to have the unit repaired or fixed as per the terms of the contract. (As opposed to rush into refunding).

But present case (as you and I pointed out) would purely be booked as “remorse return” in their books.

Unless Amazon sees that the contractual terms promised by the sale contract (from the seller) are breached by the inaction of the brand/ service (warranty) provider… such return/ replacement/ refund is seen as an “invalid” request from the buyer and gets clubbed into the list of “invalid” concessions.

Also it’s very surprising to see that the product which I got is not even available on their official website when I searched it with serial number, its showing this product is not available. This is not the case with Lenovo and Dell laptops which I already have.

As hinted by @getready here https://www.desidime.com/discussions/is-it-safe... …if the item is phased out/ recalled (not actively sold anymore) or billed in the sales numbers of a different market/ region then often the zonal offices of the brands do not want the “expense” of servicing or contingent liabilities on their head.

I am not into these things anymore, but even the likes of Seagate, Ericsson had infamy in this regards.
If their masterdata showed that the sale was booked (added) to the performance of.. say the S.E. Asian region or M.E.N.A. market or with E.U. or N.A. market.. then it used to be a “ritual” to have the serial number (of the item) reassigned to India region.

Only THEN would the systems of the authorised Service Centre be able to create the RMA ID.

Do you see any vendor name on the bill or have any inclination to tell us about who the seller is?

I don’t think it’s because laptop is purchased from Amazon. Its because the laptop isn’t listed in acer India store.Maybe the model is imported one by Amazon?
P215-53 (15.6 inch one at 50,990) was being previously sold on fk.Wanted to purchase it and called, chatted and used whatsapp chat too.None of the agents had idea about that model. In such case even after sales service might be problematic.Thats y didn’t purchase it.But it was very vfm at that price

Dukaan do tarah ki hoti h, ek jispe aapko bharosa h or aap usse hi saman lete ho or dusre shop wale ko ignore krte ho. Same online me bhi yahi h. Ask dimers about the seller before buying and after sometime you will be a champ in selecting the seller. Or aisa koi samaan nhi h jo ye top seller na dete ho, third party seller hmesha jyada me bhangaar samaan dete h.

Update – Got the refund today after returning the replacement laptop and bought a new HP laptop from Offline store. Thanks for all your suggestions/feedbacks.

I also visited Acer Service Center for inquire about the extended warranty and they are providing it there with free ADP for first year but before that I already initiated the return for this laptop.

These are two key takeaways for me from this thread. KG+ to both of you.

@kukdookoo buyer’s remorse is basically feeling regret after purchasing a product for what ever reason. e.g. you purchased a laptop from amazon & just after few days flipkart launched a new laptop model with better configuration at similar price from another major brand so now you feel regret thinking if you can return this laptop & buy that other laptop from refund money.

Its safe but make sure you create video for unboxing.

I purchased Asus Zenbook Duo 15 Pro from Amazon recently at 299999/-
I found that laptop box was already opened. Few stickers and box lamination was not present but it was look like not used so kept it because that model was not available with other vendors/ecom website and I have purchased warranty from Asus(extended 2 years).

Alternative to you. With Amazon bill sometime seller send own invoice use that for warranty extension or request such invoice from seller
