Jio complaints to Trai over Vodafone Idea new SMS tariff plans:

Jio is learnt to have written to the sector regulator Trai complaining that the new tariff structure of Vodafone Idea allegedly restricts entry-level customers to port their mobile number

Reliance Jio is learnt to have written to the sector regulator Trai complaining that the new tariff structure of Vodafone Idea allegedly restricts entry-level customers to port their mobile number from its network, according to official sources.

Vodafone Idea (VIL) in November raised mobile services and data rates by 18-25 per cent.

Under the new tariff structure, VIL increased the entry level plan with 28 days validity to Rs 99 from Rs 75 but the entry-level plan is not bundled with SMS service.

“Jio has complained to Trai that VIL new tariff restricts people opting for low value plans from porting their mobile number as outgoing SMS facility is not available in the entry level plans of VIL,” the source said.

According to the Jio complaint, VIL is providing SMS service in plans priced at Rs 179 and above.

NGO Telecom Watchdog had also filed a complaint before Trai on the same issue on the day the new tariff of VIL became effective.

“Vodafone Idea has increased the tariff plan across the packages…however, our immediate concern is about their step in which they have moved SMS services to a higher tariff bracket i.e. Rs 179 package, minimum. As you know for porting out SMS service is required. If a consumer wants to port out, he must first pay Rs 179 to get the tariff plan with SMS service,” the NGO said.

It alleged that the move of VIL is to stop the consumers from moving to other telecom networks for better services.

“We are highly surprised to note that such kind action by Vodafone Idea has gone unnoticed so far as Trai has not initiated any action to protect the interest of consumers. In fact, the SMS services should be available in the lowest tariff plan,” Telecom Watchdog said.

The Mukesh Ambani-owned telco has suggested that to address the situation, Trai may either consider making such SMSs (short message service) free or remove the need for the service totally for porting purposes, the first person said.

A person familiar with the Trai’s processes said the regulator was examining the issue, adding that while the regulator hasn’t decided its mode of action, it will ensure consumers have all the flexibility of choice.

NGO Telecom Watchdog said same thing, “We are highly surprised to note that such kind action by Vodafone Idea has gone unnoticed so far as Trai has not initiated any action to protect the interest of consumers. In fact, the SMS services should be available in the lowest tariff plan,”

A non-profit organisation, Telecom Watchdog, had also last week, written to Trai, with a similar complaint to Jio’s.

TRAI is like they know everything but don’t want to pinpoint someone and hurt the other party bcuz thoda bahut paisa to sab khaya hai laughing

So if anyone of them reports then ACT else they remain hibernated the rest of the time.

BTW it will be good if TRAI implements SMS pack for the lowest plan for all networks or something sort of.

The funny part is jio has complained about it but jio itself has done the same thing.

Telecom operators actually removed sms from low value recharges to stop port. It is very simple way for them. Most of churning happens in low end and they want to stop porting there.

Jio to TRAI- Isse pehle blame hampe aaye aur log hame jimmedaar samjhe yeh raita failaney ka, Vi ko blame kar dete hai. Vaise bhi marey huye ko maarney mein alag hi maza hai. Airtel se toh vaise bhi Spectrum deal karke hamney usse apne kheme mein shaamil kar liya hai. Airtel also has same plans and don’t allow SMS par Mittal firangi nahi hai Vi ki tarah. Toh Do Me a favor Let’s Blame Vi, duniya mein bas tariff hike ki boli.

Trans: Airtel-Jio saath hai Vi ki lagney wali waat hai. Wah! Kya baat hai….

It’s high time government or TRAI creates a web portal for porting..
It can be two factor authenticated..
So that’s no outgoing SMS is needed and we can get 2 OTP to actually port out..
Anyways these telcos need to be teached a harsh lesson..

Finally, even though it’s for jios profit, it will help customers. I had also raised this with TRAI but all they did was forward to vi who spoke rudely

The reason is your surname does not end with Bambani laughing

But on a serious note, can’t we as consumers as a whole as TRAI or DOT to fix the issue or make changes that will be beneficial for all users.
Any way such possible so that we dimers can push the telecom operators.

Write a letter addressed To SELF. Then write your own address under To and post it. Yes, 41 rupees will be gone and but it will be fun when the postman comes and delivers you your own letter.

What a joke. When Jio gave everything free for 1.5 year to pouch customers from other operators, they dont have any right complaining about this.
